Renamed Air HQ

Post by morvael »

I didn't see that in the manual. 8th Air Army was renamed to Stalingrad Air Army and the 15th Air Army to Voronezh Air Army. I thought (based on the manual), that numbered armies will stay there until the end of war (though personally I prefer front-like names, easier to memorize).

Section 8.3.2 lists some Soviet Air HQ's that get renamed. Maybe the ones you mentioned were added later and the manual was not updated.

This happened on the first July'42 turn, as the Southwestern front was renamed (Voronezh wasn't renamed though, but the 15th Air Army was assigned to it a turn before).

Send the turn right before they are renamed so Pavel can watch the change. Thanks.

In the same game, when the Stalingrad Front was renamed to Don Front, the Air Army HQ once again got renamed, to Don Air Army HQ.

This is normal. Only numbered armies won't get renamed.

The rules say that Stalingrad Air Cmd should be renamed to 16th Air Army in Sept'42. I got 16th Air Army as reinforcement, but the Air Cmd changed it's name to Don along with the Front on October'42.

It is hard to comment without knowing when the game has been started. Air Command name should follow the the name of the front unless it is numbered army (it was fixed not so long time ago). In general, soviet air army command naming code assumes that player shouldn't reassign them too often. Probably it makes sense to restrict HHQ change for the Soviet air commands.

I didn't reassign any air command. I have only assigned 15th Air Army to Voronezh since both arrived as reinforcements and unrelated. Maybe the Stalingrad->Don rename wouldn't happen if first the 8th-> Stalingrad hasn't occured. But certainly the manual is wrong about the 16th Air Army - it arrives as unassigned reinforcement. Perhaps that's why the September change didn't occur - the name was already taken.

Currently I'm missing the Northwest-> 6th rename, the Southwest-> 8th rename was lost due to bug (first renamed to Stalingrad, now to Don), 15th was lost due to the same bug (renamed to Voronezh), and the question remains wheter the manual correctly shows the Stalingrad (old Southern) rename - perhaps the date shown is wrong, because they look ordered, and this one is not fitting.

Another bad rename (4th Ukrainian Front also exists).
