Well I'm putting the Christmas tree up with my little cruisers. I suggested we have something on the TV while doing it - the BBC's The Great War perhaps.... but they didn't like that idea. Go figure??

Something Disney then..... [;)]

I'm watching oliver Stone's The Untold History of the United States, a documentary mini series. It has its interesting moments, and at times appears to be a typical history channel rehash. But can be subjective and at times a little Michael Moorish. The film loses credibility on occasion, when it showed a map of WW2 which included Finland as being invaded by the Soviet Union. Later, during the cold war era, a map was shown of Soviet countries, again Finland was one of them. Stone's narration is horrible IMO. His diction becomes monotonous and you pick up on some of his bad speaking habits. Every "A" he pronounces "ay". Every "the" he pronounces "thee" no matter whether the next word starts with a vowel or not. The twist he puts on history is very subjective and revealing. Focussing on Truman, his perceived weaknesses, and over-reaction to the Soviet Union leading to an unnecessary? cold war. Minor characters in history get the spotlight by Stone such as James Forrestal. I think that is what kept me watching right into episode 4.

Germany's unforgivable crime before the Second World War was her attempt to extricate her economy from the world's trading system and to create her own exchange mechanism which would deny world finance its opportunity to profit.

I’ve just watched the BBC documentary Scotland: Rome’s Final Frontier – which looks at the three Roman invasions of Scotland and at the forts and settlements they abandoned when they gave up. It can be watched or downloaded on the BBC iPlayer website for the next couple of days. Link.
