Leaving now for a Field Training Exercise recce north of the polar circle. Well, it can't be any colder or more snow up there, can it?

How long you going to be gone, Per? In any case, our regards to Saint Nicholas.

Just until wednesday. Ok, I'll say hello to him from you.

Nice?
Fucking stupid! Payed for with my money! Fucking arseholes!

Well, the tanks, sure. The MiGs were paid for by Moscow rubles. [:D]

Don't eat Rudolph.

To late. Just back from dinner. I actually had reindeer. Quite good, but the red nose looked a little out of place.

No.

Nobody paid the modernization for us, and the DDR had to pay for their own stuff, being the "wealthiest" of the Warshaw Pact nations. The "wealth" they had consisted of West Germany credits given for dissidents being allowed to leave the country.

Thats interesting, did not now that. I had assumed that the USSR just handed out free stuff like....like....well, like you guys are. [:D]

That begs the question of why those MiGs needed to be modernized in the first place if having them on the books was immediately known to cause issues.

I'd guess they had to be renovated to be able to link into the NATO C2 systems

Just had a one hour walk in the city of Kiruna. -12C, light snowfall and the wonderful "knirk"-ing sound beneath your shoes when walking around in the snow. [:)]

Picture appended. Sorry for the bad picture quality. Obviously, there were some condensation on the mobile camera lens. Also, light wasn't good as it was some time since the sun went down. Today, the sun went up at 11.11am and down 11.52 ... [:'(]

Indeed. And given modern (western) avionics, they are defenitly among the best interceptors there are. So it was worth investing into keeping them from a military point of view.

I don't mind helping out friends, and giving military aid to friends and allies. But the way everything is thrown away for free to nations that could very well afford to pay the full price is just another example how my governments handles the money it robs from me.
The Leopard 2 is among the best tanks in the world, even in the A4 version. Finland only had to pay the scrap metal price for the tanks, while it can still be sold for real money.
But hey! If you are the government, you haven't payed for it with your own money. So why bother acting like it was yours?

Say, Per, that's a bit on the cold side. Makes our high temperature here for the day (13F) positively balmy. Of course, tonight will be 5F, which is -15C.

Oh, and it's supposed to get colder, ~-25C tomorrow. Tomorrow is also the first day of the polar night, meaning that the sun don't manage to rise above the horizon from tomorrow until end of january. [:D]

But Stockholm isn't north of the polar circle. How can it stay dark then?

I'm not in Stockholm. I'm in the city of Kiruna some 1000km north of Stockholm.
