Spw 250 and 251 question

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Spw 250 and 251 question

Post by Update »

These two armored vehicles were a base for many variants, though they were first and formost for transporting the Half-squad of recon units (gp) and infantry squads (gp) of panzer divisions.
The question is about the armor value:
All the specialised vehicles (eg. 250/7, 251/2, 251/10 etc.) have their fron armor value 10 and 14. BUT the armored infantry with their 251/1 is only armor value of 1 and 1. Why this change of values for the most used and basic vehicle of the series?
The vehicles themself were in each case identical, only armament and carry room where different.

Also, the 250/1 is missing along with the whole recon company of half-squad (Panzer-Aufklarungs-Kompanie (gp)). And I do not think that, as is done in some TOE, that 9x Pzgr squad equals 22x recon half squad (gp) along with the other support 250 series vehicles.

Anyway, if somebody would just clarify why the armor value is dropped almost to nothing in basic 251/1 variant.

Thank you!
Nobody respects a country with a poor army, but everybody respects a country with a good army. I raise my toast to the Finnish Army.

The Armored Infantry Squads are not treated as AFVs like the armed halftracks but are infantry with greater firepower/survivability due to the presence of their halftracks. The "1" in the armor value is to tell the program that this unit is mechanized infantry.

The SdKfz-250 variants are not used in the game as they are redundant with the SdKz-251 variants and would have consumed slots in the TOEs better used for other vehicles. Even without the SdKfz-250s in some cases elements had to be combined in a TOE or not represented due to slot limitations.
