A Casual AAR Ketza (Axis) vrs Unknown

Post by Ketza »

A laid back AAR against and unknown Soviet opponent that has a different take on things then what I have been running into lately.

South start - I am going all in down here but a pesky Soviet cav division ruins the pocket. One Panzer division is off by a hex!

For the record I would love a slight Soviet movement phase down here before or during the surprise turn to make things more interesting then the usual Lvow pocket.

Pocket reductions turn 2:

North - 81,000
Center -174,000
Swamp - 82,000
South - 34,000 (extended Lvov pocket held but the big one did not which is odd)

Almost 700k with no Lvov reduction is a good haul and shows the power of channeling the routs of Soviet units by staggered attacks and penetrations along the front instead or starting on one end and moving north to south.

Begin of turn 3 pockets in the south.

My opponent ran like the wind in the south. He left a small screen force behind which was pocketed. Recon shows everything behind the river except a bulge around Kiev.

End of turn 3 center -

My center push is rather weak with a Panzer corps heading south and one heading north. He evacuated Mogilev and 2nd Panzer pushed to the city outskirts.

One Panzer corps was transferred from 3PZ to 2PZ. 9th army and 4th army are coming up quickly from the west because of a complete reduction of pockets. Most of 3rd Panzer is heading north towards Velikie Luki to support southern flank of AGN.

End of turn 3 North

Big push to Leningrad. I want it to fall as quick as possible. My last few games Leningrad has been a slugfest and I havent had a prayer of capturing it as I did not support 4th PZ in an attempt to go all out for Moscow but that did not work either [:D]

In the south I have not seen someone run like this in over a year. I do not know if it is because of my extra Panzer divisions or some grand plan but my Panzers do not have anything to kill and punch at the air. I do overrun Kirovograd and actually kill some AP and HI for a change however!

He is running in the south but has set up a strong line in the Leningrad area so I am pretty sure he is not a complete runner yet.

Losses after 3 turns. 843k with most of Lvov still needing to be reduced. Not bad but the future of high Soviet casualties does not look good if he is going to be running. Hopefully the loss of manpower centers will be enough to offset this.

2nd Panzer claws out a bridgehead. This should unhinge the river line.

Maybe this bridgehead will start to unhinge his line here as well. Next turn should be interesting.
