Know of any real-time game

Post by swkuh »

Long ago in Apple IIc land there was a game that featured real-time play (I believe from MicroProse.) One set objectives for units (divs, bgds) and watched them go at it. Intervene when desired to redirect. No force composition alternatives and guess two player and PBEM techniques wouldn't apply. 2 player might, but PBEM not.

Anyone know of such?

Maybe "Across the Rhine 1944"?
Back then I bought a whopping four Mb extra memory to play it.

I am thinking maybe it was the game " Campaign".

I have Across the Rhine and it sounds different than his description.

Thanks for suggestions. Will Google around and check Amazon for the titles referenced. "Campaign" sounds good, should have said WWII preferred.

You're probably thinking of Crusade in Europe. There was a whole series of these, NATO Commander, Crusade In Europe, Decision in the Desert, and Conflict in Vietnam. The series featured a command system that you describe - you would give individual movement orders to your units, then they would all try to carry out them out - if they tried to move into an enemy unit then combat resulted.

I played Crusade in Europe a lot on my C64.

There are some elements like that in World War 2 Online but thats more of a FPS fundamentally with some players who are a member of the HC getting operational level real time decisions.

I have been playing different tower defense games, but the game Starbunker:Guardians 2 HD is very well made. Amazing graphics, various aliens, heroes of StarBunker 2, and great gameplay attracted me a lot. You can upgrade your heroes and speed up the action, but most of the time you will need strategy to build good defense region to protect yourself from being destroyed by the aliens.

I played it on my iPad, and it is free.
