Awesome In-Game Screens

Achtung Panzer:Operation Star is an Eastern Front wargame with solid graphics and sprawling battlefields that really emphasize the scope of WWII tank combat. The gameplay is a remarkably realistic turn-based and real-time operational/tactical hybrid wargame that continues the series begun by the acclaimed Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943.

Maybe he shot himself? Prisoners can be killed in CMBN aswell. Not sure if they could in Close Combat. APOS is, like Steel Fury, such an underrated overlooked classic it boggles the mind. Its the best RTS since Close Combat 2 hit the streets. CM when the Eats Front game come sout will still be my number one due to WEGO nothing really comes close to APOS though and if CM didn't have WEGO it wouldn't get a look in by me.

+1 although the pause feature in APOS means that you basically have a WeGo game right there, with the added advantage that you don't have to wait while the turns are processed by the computer.

Started playing and have to say I really like a lot of the features. Especially the encylopedia in which you can compare gun vs armor. The after game stats showing exactly where shells penetrate armor is cool too.

The only major downside for me is the realtime play with no playback. On anything bigger than a small battle you can miss so much of the action because of this. I can spend a good ten minutes reviewing turns in CM. Watching the actions from several different angles is great.

I think if APOS had this it would definitely take a few players away from the CM series.

Thats why a 30 minute battle takes me 3-4 hours in real time as i pause and look at as much as I can.

I like the lack of playback because I play the game with the mindset that in APOS I am a Company or higher commander. I have limited information about events, even less enemy Intel, and there's no playback feature in the real world ;)

Treat is as a simulation of command dynamics and you'll get more satisfaction out of the application.

Yeah. Everyone has their own unique way of playing to get the experience they want out of games. I just like seeing my infantry lying in wait as an enemy tank passes and then WHAM! An ambush with a shrek. If you have a nice size battle with 3 or 4 groups going at it you will most likely miss these moments. I play for fun and less like a hardcore simulation but that is just my style. I am loving many of the things this game brings to the table though. Just wish the turn based option was there to catch as many good moments as possible.

Absolutely - to each his own! I do support the idea of a playback feature. I was just suggesting a way to get more out of the game as it stands.
