Bismarck please

Post by sonofdavros »

As an old-time gamer, I really wish some board games could be recreated online - and my choice would be Bismarck. The whole "fog of war" and the hunt for Bismarck and Prinz Eugen would be ideally suited to an online game.

Also Squad Leader - the original board game. (Not the PC remake.)

What about you - anyone else like Bismarck? What other old games do you think would be great online?

None for me, I'd rather have them as single player games. Infact I'd jump at the chance for many of the great old games to come onto our PC boxes of magic. Just not into online muliplayer games unless it's an FPS.

I should have been more clear Wodin. I would love a single player Witp version of Federation and Empire. I wonder how the pseudo fighters would be handled....

The thing is, it's impossible to play Bismarck on your own.

If you mean Avalon Hill's Bismarck then yes - absolutely loved it. It was this game that probably got me into "serious" wargaming (as opposed to Risk, Diplomacy etc) back in the early 80's.

You're in luck!
A re-imagining of the classic Avalon hill game BISMARK for the PC is in the works.

Its set in the 23rd century. The Zombie Nazis are about to launch a space station to Jupiter IX.
You take on the role of a stealth assassin who has been completely reconstructed, using nanobot technology, from the wreck of the battleship Bismark.

Using your smokescreen, 15" barrel arms, psychic powers and radar eyes you must defeat the evil Admiral Hood and his wife, Princess Eugene of the ComEmp forces.

We're pretty sure fans of the original will be appreciate how closely we stayed to the original.
Just added some FPS,RTS,puzzle and platform elements.

I don't know if it was based on the boardgame, but I remember playing it and finishing it. IIRC it was the only original wargame for C64 available in Poland.

While not an online version (for semi-obvious reasons) There is/was Computer Bismarck by SSI for the Apple II in 1980 (written by John Lyon, Joel Billings & Dave Cook).

(not to mention Dreadnoughts by Avalon Hill for the Apple II in 1984)

Also Squad Leader - the original board game. (Not the PC remake.)
There was a hybrid version of that for the Apple II in 1982, called Close Assault by Avalon Hill (actually National Micro Associates in this case). It actually includes one of the maps from SL, plus appropriate counters.

"Lose" is the opposite of "win." "Loose" is the opposite of "tight."

Sorry, my brain totally muddled up your reply. [8|]

You're absolutely right - AI controlling either side would work brilliantly.

Anyway, it ain't gonna happen, so...

+1 for Bismarck here, nice little game.
Apart from that I would really love a PC version of "Britannia" with both an AI and a Pbem ability.
