And then it happens. A Leo gunner lines up a Russian IFV in the sights and squeezes the trigger. Instantly 10 Russian soldiers are transformed into heroes for their cause.

The 120mm round rips through the IFV leaving it flaming mass of twisted metal with a rising column of smoke to mark the meeting of two historic foes.

Good Hunting.

The Russians were determined to make the loss of their IFV worth the price of admission to the dance. They race forward to take the high ground on our left flank.

1st Company awaits them.

Steady eyes to the sights and steady fingers on the triggers. When the order is given the Leopards scream their defiance!!

The Russians learn within the first few minutes that the Germans have forgotten nothing about tank warfare since the last time they met.

The battle is not without cost as 2 of the big cats are also hit and knocked out.

Good Hunting.

Rapidly the combat ranges are reduced to point blank!

No long range gunnery here for this contest. This is a no holds bared battle to the death!

As the Russians try to catch the Germans before they can get set the race is on for the best firing positions.

Image

I think the Russians will find that since WWII it's become a bad idea to have infantry carriers in the front waves of an attack.

The Leo gunners are happy to see BMP targets!!!

Good Hunting.

The Soviet forces keep pushing hard against the blocking force. Applying more and more fire. The intensity of the combat raises to a new level!

Then it happens.

Image

Soviet forces start to stream by the burning Leopards. The big cats continue to fire and to fight but they can only target so many AFV's at once.

Will the opening be enough? There are German forces behind the initial defenders. Will they be enough to stop the flow of Soviet AFV's...we'll soon know.

Good Hunting.

The Alpha jet certainly isn't an A-10. They get shot out of the sky with an unsettling regularity.

I called the Americans...all I asked for was a single A-10 to come straighten this mess out.

Somehow the call was cut off.....hmmmmm.....

The Soviet battle plan seems to be to drive through the far left side of our blocking force.

I'm leary of going out across that open valley with the fastest movement speed option being road march. I want to see a "Haul Butt" order. Something that allows me to move FAST. What can be hit will be killed. The slower I move in certain situations the higher the likelyhood of my being hit/killed.

This is one of those situations. I want across that valley BEFORE every Soviet unit on the map knows I'm only 1/8th the way across it.

"Yea, tho I charge across the Shadow of the Valley of Death I will fear no evil. For thou art with me";

"but Lord the faster we go the better!!!"

Good Hunting.

I hope our timing is good. If we can disrupt the Soviet advance things could start to go our way.

You know, when I do wargames I come to fight!

I came to fight so it's time.

Time to throw the right hook!

The Soviet sledgehammer is being swung over and over at the left flank. They are trying to break the block and are so close to making that happen.

Will the flank attack happen soon enough to be of help or was it a bad idea to have them swing out wide to the right?

The time of decision is rapidly approaching.

This battle is far from lost but we are taking heavy casualties. It will all be worth it if we can keep Soviet armored formations out of the towns and villages where our families live.

Image

What is this?

"Sgt Steiner, respond...why are you advancing to the east?"

"Sgt Steiner , respond...."

The crackling static of a dead radio is our only answer...

What is happening? Why did Steiner advance to the east? Whatever the reason the Soviets seem confused by his actions. Unfortunately he is down to only his tank still running in his platoon.

GET THAT MAN SOME HELP!!

Good Hunting.

We weren't in time to save Sgt Steiner.

He disrupted the entire Soviet attack by himself but he focused their attention on his tank and crew.

Hopefully they survived.

The entire spearhead turned back to take care of a single Leo 2. That shows the respect our tanks have earned already!

Good Hunting.

Time and again the Soviets try to break the blocking forces.

They have pulled their initial attack forces back, more than likely because they are spent. Now they have fresh new units about to try to break the block one more time.

The Soviets are moving towards what was left of our line. There are too many holes and not enough fingers for this dike.

Hopefully we can kill some of the leaks.

They rush to the opening in the center of the blocking area.

This was left open on purpose. Easier to close off a center penetration than one on the end.

Hopefully that will hold true here today.

Image

Even as they penetrate we kill more of them.

Hopefully we can kill enough to make a difference.

The Leo is proving itself to be extremely worthy of our faith.
