Naval HQs - Remember that a select few are also Command HQs. You want them to be able to be transported around the Pacific to allow some LCUs to upgrade. I have SE Fleet going around for the first patch of BFs that get extra medium flak upgrades and more support squads.
You know what would be very nice? If someone would make a list of dates when significant LCU upgrades occur. something like:
8/42 - BF get extra medium flak upgrades and more support squads
10/42 - Tank regiments get Panthers
etc
Us JFBs would pay a significant amount of virtual beer to such person [8D]

Back to the war....
15 Feb 42
Sub War
Nothing new to report. I have subs heading to various places looking for Ted's SLOC. It'll be awhile.
5 Fleet
The Emilys out of Adak found a TF at Umnak Island. I'll bet it's the AVD I spotted earlier. A sub is going to investigate.
4 Fleet
Nothing new to report.
SE Fleet
Bloody day over Pt. Moresby. The two chutai scheduled to sweep Pt. Moresby went in separately. The first one of 8 Zeros ran across 23 P-39Ds and shot down 7 for the loss of 2 Zeros and 2 pilots. The second of 8 Zeros found 8 P-39Ds and shot down 3 for no loss. Ten for the loss of 2. Not bad. My intel shows 4 fighters remaining at Pt. Moresby. Ted, keep sending your fighters there and I'll keep chewing them up.
Truk's port finally reached level 7.
I noticed an error today. Claudes do not have the range to fly from Truk to Rabaul (or any airfield down there). I'm sending 3x engineer companies from Truk to Kavieng to build up the airfield there so I can hop Claudes to there and then to Rabaul.
The naval construction battalion at Truk is heading to Rabaul to assist in the airfield there. I also noticed another SE Fleet naval construction battalion at the HI and am sending it to Truk.
China
One of the two remaining Chinese corps was destroyed today in another DA. Losses were 34(0) to 821(41) Chinese. One to go....
Burma
Nine AVG H81-A3s flew to Tongoo meeting 5 Oscar Ibs. No AVG fighters were shot down but I got lucky and didn't lose any either. I reinforced Tongoo with a chutai of Oscar Ics. Bring 'em on!
Malaya
I made a mistake at Singapore. I attacked with everything, including the beat up engineer regiments. Losses in engineers were heavy. The 1:1 DA (Fort level 2) resulted in 1228(85) Japanese losses to 1999(125) Allied losses. Two of the 3 engineer regiments are beat up. I won't make that mistake again. I did change the commanders of the Southern Army and 16 Army. Hopefully, that'll make a difference.
SRA
Soerakarta, in Java, fell today. The 2x Dutch base forces were pushed with 204(15) losses to no Japanese losses. The infrastructure is ok at Manpower 1(1), resources 15(5) and LI 15(5).
I can see an Allied TF at Darwin with a CL in it. MKB will hit Darwin tomorrow.
Other Stuff
The Soryu arrived at Tokyo for repairs today. It'll take 53 days to fully repair her. Well, she's safe at last.
My first R&D factory reached 30. It's a Ki-49-Ia and I converted it to a Ki-49-IIa. The other R&D factories are slowly plodding along.

Corect. Not Command HQ. Kinda weird, but oh well. I use the 5th Fleet to as a rover for my TOE upgrades, and for its command HQ bonus on important operations. Southern has to stay in the Burma theatre for support there is required almost nonstop for me.ORIGINAL: Mike Solli

Clarification - I thought that ALL Naval HQs were able to supply torpedoes. I was wrong!! [X(] While helping John 3rd with errors in Reluctant Admiral 4.0 (changes for 4.1), my opponent, DivePac, pointed out that many were not showing torpedo enabling for Nell/Betty/Kates. After about an hour bouncing back and forth between games and the Editor, I found out that ONLY Command Naval HQs can supply torpedoes. I did learn how to make a Naval HQ a Command HQ and what range it can have (1, 5, or 9 hexes). [:)]

I can't figure out the math behind it, but i use "critical" at ports for capital ships where I can afford it. I've returned 2 carriers to service rather quickly this way. It seems to randomly shave days?

13. Integrity repair priority
Players can elect the level of “repair priority” to be accorded a ship. There are four “repair priority” modes a ship can be placed in. These are:
• Low
• Normal
• High
• Critical
There is however a trade off for assigning a higher “repair priority”. Think of “high priority” and “critical priority” as representing overtime for the RW.
“High priority” sees IR undertaken at 1.667 times the normal rate (provided there are sufficient IRP available at that location to pay for the worked overtime) but the trade off is that the ship imposes 2 times its normal RW utilisation rate.
“Critical priority” sees IR undertaken at 2 times the normal rate (again provided sufficient IRP are present for the worked overtime) but the trade off is 4 times the normal RW utilisation rate is incurred.
“Low priority” sees IR undertaken at the same rate as “normal priority”. The difference with “normal priority” is a ship on “low priority” is placed at the end of the queue and is only worked on if all the ships ahead of it have been attended to. Use “low priority” where you want to favour some other ships but are not willing, or unable, to pay the overtime rates.

Thanks Alfred. [&o]
Glad you brought this up though I needed to reread sections of this myself. [X(]

RE: Once Again into the Breech - Mike (J) vs. tc464 (A)
Ted's back in town!
16 Feb 42
Sub War
Lots of subs & DDs on both sides shooting and missing with one exception. Off Pt. Moresby, The Ro-64 took two DC hits from an AM. I figured she was done for but she's still hanging in there. Her damage is 22-40(11)-2-0. She's headed to Rabaul, 6 days away at cruise speed. Hopefully she'll make it.
5 Fleet
The I-164 scouted out Umnak Island and found a TF of 2 DDs and another unknown TF (I still think it's the AVD). No hits were scored on either side. I have only 2 Emilys at Adak and am trying a naval attack mission (50% naval search). I doubt it works but we'll see.
4 Fleet
Nothing new to report.
SE Fleet
I did a sweep mission over Pt. Moresby but the Allied fighters didn't come up to play. I'll try it again tomorrow and then start bombing.
China
I attacked the lone isolated Chinese Corps and killed 263(61) but didn't destroy the unit. I'll try again tomorrow.
Philippines
The 16 Division attacked and destroyed the 73 PA Infantry Regiment at Bacolod. Two more garrisoned islands to go. The infrastructure was intact at Manpower 1(1) and Resources 20(0).
Burma
The AVG sent 12 planes to Tongoo again and met 11 Oscar Ics. I lost 3 shot down (and one op loss) to 1 H81-A3 (and an op loss), but lost 3 pilots. I did better with the Ibs.
Malaya
Nothing new to report.
SRA
Probolinggo fell to the Rowboat Corps. The infrastructure was intact at Manpower 2(0) and Resources 20(0).
A single 139WH-3 flew over Tobali and was promptly shot down by an Oscar. Odd....
Other Stuff
I increased the Val factory by 10 to 40.

Sub War
The Ro-64 is heading back to the barn and her flooding damage is decreasing. She should make it to Rabaul as long as she doesn't run into an enemy sub.
The I-164, tooling around Umnak Island, found the other TF hanging out there. It wasn't the AVD as I suspected, but an AP. Not an xAP, but a real AP. Two torpedo hits later, down she went. She was a good sized one too at 10k tons. Unfortunately she was empty but I'll take it anyway.
5 Fleet
Nothing else to report other than the little incident above. [:D]
4 Fleet
Currently, Wake has 2x naval construction battalions and it's almost at it's troop limit. I'm sending some cargo ships from Kwajalein to pick one up. I'm planning on sending it to Eniwetok but that may change. Wake is working on it's 5th fort. I'm concerned that when it receives it's CD unit, it may go over the limit.
SE Fleet
Interesting day in this area. My daily sweep of Pt. Moresby netted no results. Ted didn't come up to play again.
There are several 1-2 ship TFs in the area. I thought they all were ASW TFs. I was wrong. My Betties flew a Naval Attack mission for the first time. They caught a small TF in Pt. Moresby and sank an xAKL and DD. I'll take it.
Madang fell. That gives me the entire northern coast of New Guinea from Hollandia east. Cape Glouchester is the only other Allied controlled base in the area. That next.
China
That surrounded Chinese Corps was hit again netting 743(84) Chinese. My intel shows ~20k troops. Big corps.
Burma
The AVG flew over Meiktila, Tongoo and Taung Gyi and found Oscars at all three places. Overall, I lost one Oscar while shooting down 2x H81-A3s and another reportedly crashed on the way home.
I finally caught up with the Burma Division from Rangoon. I'll attack tomorrow.
Malaya
Nothing new to report. The next attack is still a couple of days away.
SRA
On Java, I took Tjepoe unopposed. It's the oil/refinery center in the center of the island. The infrastructure was intact at Oil 35(0) and Refinery 30(0). I'm building 5 more refineries so I don't have to mess with oil there.
MKB was 4 hexes north of Darwin yesterday, along the edge of the shallow water. I wanted to try to hit the Marblehead again today, but I was concerned about subs, so I moved the TF one hex to the east along the shallow water. Good thing I did. The Marblehead and That Damn Boise popped up where MKB was yesterday! MKB has 23 Kates (the N1 model) and 20 of them went after the two CLs. The Marblehead took 3 torpedoes and went down and the Boise took 2 torpedoes and limped away heavily damaged. Ted told me this morning that he expects her to go down. I moved MKB 3 hexes north so it's still 7 hexes from Darwin. If Boise doesn't go down, I want MKB to be able to assist her tomorrow. Should Boise make Darwin, there is still that sub laid minefield there to greet her. Banzai!
The next turn awaits!

I'm extremely careful in using these ships as most convert to APAs in Feb 43. You need them for the eventual counter-invasions. KUDOS!! [&o]

Sub War
Nothing today. Umnak Island is clear of troops. I suspect there's someone at Dutch Harbor but I have to send a sub to investigate. Both Emilys are down for maintenance. [8|]
5 Fleet
Those two DDs at Umnak Island vanished.
4 Fleet
Nothing new to report.
SE Fleet
Six P-39Ds rose against my 16 Zeros. I shot down 2 for the loss of one and one pilot WIA.
Something interesting happened. All of my air units at Lae, Gasmata and Rabaul were able to take on replacement aircraft. I filled them all up along with as many spares as I could. Very nice. I also moved one Betty daitai to Lae. It's primary mission is Naval Attack with a secondary mission of airfield attack against Pt. Moresby. The second Betty daitai is still stationed at Rabaul and has naval attack as it's mission. Lae still has 3x Zero chutai and they all have escort missions. Gasmata has a full strength Zero daitai with a sweep mission against Pt. Moresby. Finally, Rabaul has 1 daitai and 1 chutai of Zeros and they are escort.
I currently have 5x Ro class subs south of Pt. Moresby with two more enroute from Rabaul and the 8th is the damaged Ro-64 enroute to Rabaul.
The 8 Sentai (27 Sallys) from 5 Air Division, has flown from Clark Field to Babeldaob enroute to Lae. It'll take over airfield bombing from the Betties, which are much more valuable in a naval attack mode.
China
I finally killed off that surrounded Chinese Corps. The final attack netted 8247(1362) Chinese. That was one big Chinese Corps!
Now that army will head south a bit to kill off about 8 more Chinese units.
Also, an army is forming at Loyang to kill off that 95k stack (20 units). If you recall, 10 units were beat up and pushed into Loyang and the other 10 units are the original Loyang garrison.
Burma
The AVG made an appearance over Prome, Taung Gyi and Meiktila. Losses were 2 Oscars for 4x H81-A3s and an additional 2 crashing on the way home.
I attacked the former Rangoon garrision, pushing the Burma Division up the road north of Pegu and destroying the 103 RN BF. Losses were 302(1) Japanese to 1701(149) Allies.
Malaya
Nothing new to report.
SRA
The only thing to report is MKB. They dutifully moved 3 hexes north and caught the Boise, putting 4 torpedoes and a 250 kg bomb into her and sending her to the bottom. In the 3 games Ted and I have played, this is the first one where she didn't wreak havoc. Banzai!

Yeah, MKB's TB pilots are getting their stats up very nicely. They're out of torps and I don't see any other Allied ships in the vicinity so they're headed back to Davao to rearm and refuel. I'm considering buying out Hiryu's DB daitai for Taiyo. Add a chutai of Zeros and she'll carry 9 Zeros and 18 Vals. Not a bad little addition for MKB.

Sub War
A Dutch sub nailed an xAKL carrying 25% of a naval construction battalion for Rabaul. Grrr...
Another Dutch sub went after a convoy a hex north of Truk but missed fortunately. I created 3x Fubuki ASW TFs to circle Truk and get her. We'll see what happens with top of the line DDs with great skippers going after subs.

The AVG came to visit Taung Gyi today. We lost 3 Oscars but only one pilot fortunately vs. 1x H81-A3 and another op loss.

MKB is heading home.
Djokjakarta fell to the Rowboat Corps. Along with it were 24x 139WH-3s. The infrastructure was intact at Manpower 1(1), Resources 20(0) and LI 20(0).

I almost forgot. 12x Mutsukis finished their upgrade at Kobe and Hong Kong. They're all headed to Truk. They're the escort for the 7x fast AOs.

Speaking of escorts, what is the ratio (escorts/cargo) you use, especially for these high value ships?

For the 7x fast AOs, I use 1 CL and 12 Mutsukis. I can't afford to lose them. They keep KB moving. That's the upper end though. I try to use a full DD squadron of 16 DD for KB. I am going to try to use 4 escorts (DD or E primarily) for 8 TKs. Much lower ratio for cargo ships. Also, the slow ships get PBs unfortunately. The Japanese philosophy has got to be something is better than nothing. [:D]

Can't you transfer restricted units to ships?ORIGINAL: Mike Solli
Yeah, MKB's TB pilots are getting their stats up very nicely. They're out of torps and I don't see any other Allied ships in the vicinity so they're headed back to Davao to rearm and refuel. I'm considering buying out Hiryu's DB daitai for Taiyo. Add a chutai of Zeros and she'll carry 9 Zeros and 18 Vals. Not a bad little addition for MKB.
I can transfer even static groups onto ships without paying PP.
Without any doubt: I am the spawn of evil - and the Bavarian Beer Monster (BBM)!
