Weird Soviet AI force displacement?

Post by fcam1387 »

Not too sure whether this might be a problem, but as the following pics below show (with FOW off), there are noticable gaps in Soviet lines.

First, the AI is really good, it has done somethings that caught me off guard and has done a good job in defend. but
I also seen this happen. It seems at a certain soviet unit density, the AI wants to build a line of depth using focus points on the front, but
then does not have enough units to close gaps or movement points. This has caused gaps in front of panzer corp. leading to loss of major russian cities.
But at some point later in the game the AI "realize" it does not have the units and changes to continues single line of units.
Also without knowing the programing, there seems to be a AI conflict between its defense strategic (defense line building) and local tactical defend and attack i.e. not defending cities (sometime a smart thing and sometime not) and not attacking .

here is and example, sections around south of Kursk, Belgorod and most serious south of Kharkov leading to loss of stalino and suburbs.
Note it is Winter and german movement is slower, so AI would this happening, the AI did a good response and should have closed the gaps
but did not ???

Hi all,

When in "Attack Mode" the AI will not hold cohesive line - this is normal!

Since this is 1943 Soviet AI must be in attack mode... but the front situation is not great for it and thus there is a problem...

We will report this to Gary - the AI in "Attack Mode" in not so good situation although it is 1943(9when the "attack Mode" should most certainly kick in)...

Lee can you lease report this?

We'll need a couple of save files for this.

Let me take a look at that one tomorrow. I may need an Axis save just before the Soviet AI breaks up the line if you have that too.

What are the numbers that show up during the AI turn at the top of the screen (### vs ###)? They give an indication of relative force strength and could tell us if the AI is in attack mode. With saves, this will go on the bug list for Gary to look at, although it could be the AI has just run out of units to cover the large front.

Joel, I think that Soviet AI will enter "Attack Mode" in 1943 regardless of odds...

My understanding from Gary is that it used to be that way, but isn't anymore. This was changed at some point within the past 3 months, IIRC.
