RE: server problem?

It's been a night of fighting at Slitherine's servers house, but we came out victorious. After a few hours of panic and troubles, which affected all of Slitherine's ring of sites, all databases are now restored and we are up an running again.

Unfortunately some of the data got lost, as the attack came just before the daily back ups started, so all is reverted to the previous day's back up. All multiplayer and forum posts after midnight of the 5th are unfortunately lost and will need to be replayed or re-posted.

As of now the PBEM system is still offline as we are synching back the over 15GB of data of all players games, so it will take another two or three hours before we can get it back live again.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused and we understand how frustrating it can be to lose your progress in the games, but we did our best to get everything back to normal as swiftly as possible. And thanks to anybody that worked late (very late) to help us in the fight!

Thanks for forwarding that info Vorsteher. That situation is exactly why I'm not a big fan of server games [:(]

Hi everyone,

We're very sorry that this incident involved some lost data from the PBEM server. The announcement above is correct, and u
unfortunately reverting to the previous day's backup was the best we could do.

This is the first time this has happened and we'll be doing our best to make sure it's the last.

Regards,

- Erik

Posted by Iain at The Wargamer:
Hi guys,

we've come under further sustained malicious attacks. We have had to bring down the site while we repair the damage.

We're working round the clock to get it all back up and running. Thankyou for your patience. We expect to be back online this afternoon.

Is there anyway possible to have the turns saved in some uncrackable save format to our computers as a backup to the server?

ORIGINAL: Vorsteher

see it in General Discussion forum. Hope the attacker is caught.

Any attacker thats any good will be using someone esles computer like yours or mine.

Knowing where the attack is coming from is just the first of many steps to find where the attack started from.

The only thing that can be done is finding a way to stop the attack.

Shadowbane had the same issue and was never able to really stop the attacks. the attacks lagged down the servers during major battles and one sides ping rate.

I am guessing this issue can be defended easly enough as lag is not an issue.

Still unable to login, although slitherine's forum suggests they're back up.
Anyone else getting error 99?

Seems to be working now, but I lost 2 turns in one game.

Lol going to hold off on server games for a while until they get this fixed.

I did turn 67 2 times, turn 68 3 times before they saved. I played turn 69 it saved first time. I opened it up today and its back on turn 68 heheh

Ground hog day all week. I wait until next weekend before playing another server turn I think.

Same here, all server games are going into hiatus over the week-end.

I was able to log in and save my turn. It had been waiting since wed. So nothing lost.
It was also rain, so I had little to do/risk.
