June 11, 1922 - the first big fleet action of the war. The French battle line takes on German battlecruisers off the Pescadores. This definately is a new kind of War Plan Orange! (War Plan Black?)

I want to play about 1-2 game months before I make more comprehensive comments, but a few off hand:

1) One thing I do notice is with all of these capital ships it is hopeless to upgrade all of their commanders. I actually find that an interesting game dynamic.
2) Another thing which changes strategy a bit is there are no new ground units as far as I can see. This means that that this is primarilly an air and naval naval war.
3) It is interesting that the first Allied heavy units in a position to really make a difference are the French fleet and the British squadron in Hong Kong.

Hi Rob,The Naval battle is looking good, who won?

As for the land conflict, there are some new forces and what has always been available, have been boosted slightly both Japanese & Allies, for the most part bases are much more difficult to capture etc enjoy![;)]

Initially it looked like a French victory, as nearly all the German DDs were sunk vs. 1 French DD. But then 4 French CAs and another DD sank on the way home, partly due to Camponi and Gotha attacks, so at this point I'd say its a German victory. CAs Scharnhorst and Blucher appeared to be badly damaged, but I don't know yet if they survived.

What made this battle interesting was both sides fielded relatively inexperienced ships and commanders. The distance never got less then 10,000 yards so it was a very, very long gunnery duel, and the shooting was quite poor. No torpedoes were fired by either side.

An example of the air attacks off the Pescadores is below - note German, Italian, and Japanese aircraft all participating. Also note on the lower left side how effective Zeppelins can be against Allied subs -

Okay, this one I had never heard of, but she is lovely just the same. The stats: Man. 36, Dur. 19 The parasol wing really kills durability!
