[Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod

Post by Magpius »

Necessary Changes.
I noticed that the port and depot symbols were not displaying, so a few tweaks later and...
You will need to replace both the appearance.txt file and the others.png file into the appropriate gfx folder.
[edit] I will be updating all the Agent Mod maps over the christmas holidays. To get them a little smoother, cleaner. Comments and suggestions for each flavour welcomed.

Nice changes, this was my second favorite map skin even before the fix.

Maybe nothing. I've switched over to it after downloading this latest patch. I also like the normal skin, but this is cleaner map.

sweet improvement to my favorite map style. MSS cities really stand out now, and the cloud symbol now adds realism to the feel of the game. Thanks much.

Agent S - really like your map skins especially the Modern one.

One thing I have noticed however (in all cases with the map skin updates applied, don't know if it also applies to the originals) is that the graphic for Rough/Raining and Plains/Raining look identical (e.g. in the Grand Campaign hexs 84,99 and 85,99) when using Agent 1,2 and 4 skins.

This is my map choice too.

I like using the diplomacy view which distorts allot of the visibility on how to move air units. It was better before hand but changed in beta for the worse.

The red could be brighter (not darker) when looking for bomber attacks. Recon view is not acceptable.

Would be nice to add the blue plane icon or one that is better when trying to see where to recon. I can live with the lightly colored target hexes if I have to.

If you can improve the recon for the next patch that would be great!

Thanks Wolfe, added to the fix/tweak list.
When making the terrain files, there was a subtle distinction, but perhaps once in the game, there was not a significant difference.
The clouds on may help until I try something else.
...
Just checked the terrain tiles .png.
There is a difference, but the colour palette is similar.
Will try roughening it up a little.

[Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod + Candies

Post by Magpius »

Started dabbling with the eyecandies.
Will start by placing country labels in.
any thoughts on font? modern, (helvetica, gill sans etc.) or traditional, (times roman, old typewriter etc) Colour? Size.
keeping in mind it's on the map and can't be turned off with an fn-key.

Image
In terms of appearance, it sits above terrain graphics, (as seen in pic) but under the units, so as to not obscure info.

Like the font in the example - but please don't use England as the country name, use Great Britain, even though I'm Northern Irish and this still leaves me out it is nearer to common parlance for the time and saves you having to also name Wales and Scotland on the map to avoid irritating the other Home Nationals [:)]

Having said that I have a slight concern that adding country names to the map may without really adding any useful information (with the possible exception of diplomacy) make it look cluttered and potentially spoil the very clean design you have come up with both for map and units. I may be wrong though.

No problem. Started with Great Britain, but as an Aussie, I'm wondering whether it's still 'great'.

It was then, we still had an empire, although we had already gotten rid of some of the unruly antipodean islands by that time [:'(]
