Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

New Public Beta v1.50.42 Now Available!

Post by Andrew Loveridge »

Hi All,

There is a new version of the 1.05 Public Beta in the Members Club. It includes changes in Air Rules/Formulas, and more Data and bug fixes. This is hopefully the last beta before an official release.
Please give it a try if you are interested in working with Betas, and give us your feed back on these changes.

V1.05.42 – November 21, 2011
New Features and Rule Changes[/b] [ul] 1) Rule Change - In order for an air unit to participate in a daylight airfield attack mission, it must have flown no more than half of its available miles. 2) Formula Change - Changed the way air leaders receive win/loss credits. Now only elements destroyed/damaged/disrupted by air are counted. Damaged men divided by 2, disrupted by 10. Element value is the same - AFV 10, Guns 5, Inf 1 (Vehicles 1). 3) Formula change - Reduced air transport op-losses. 4) Formula change - Tripled the losses during air recon missions. 5) AI Changes – Continued improvements for late war Soviet AI and Axis 1941 AI. Reduced Axis AI aggressiveness during the first winter. Improved Soviet AI use of rail repair units.
Bug Fixes
    1) Fixed a bug preventing AA units from being shown in the city detail display. 2) Fixed a bug where Corps combat units could break down into static divisions, which couldn't be merged back together. 3) Fixed a bug where the SMP was not reduced proportionally to MP immediately after a battle. 4) Fixed a bug where after an amphibious attack a brigade could incorrectly take control of adjacent hexes. 5) Fixed a bug where after an amphibious landing, adjacent Depleted enemy units were not automatically displacing. 6) Fixed a typo - "tons of OIL are consumed by oil production" is now "tons of oil are consumed by fuel production". 7) Fixed a bug where the search strings in the H(elp) dialog can get reset when cycling through the various search types (radio buttons). 8) Fixed a bug where if the hex pop up delay and mouseover delays were different (hex<mouse) then the hex pop up would not remain on the screen. 9) Fixed a bug in the Army Group renaming functions that prevented German southern army groups from renaming to AG North Ukraine and AG South Ukraine. 10) Fixed a bug with rail repair units where the RRV was not being properly checked to see how many hexes could be repaired by the unit. 11) Fixed a bug causing aircraft ranges not to be properly calculated for aircraft with multiple drop tanks.
Data and Scenario Changes
    1) Attached are new wfground.dat and wrdevice.dat to correct device (423 changed to 582) of Finnish 152mm Howitzer (ground element 165) from tank howitzer version to artillery howitzer version. 2) Changes made to the four Campaign scenarios:[ul]
  • 1st SS Panzer Division now withdraws properly
  • 9th and 10th SS Panzer Divisions now withdraw around 22 June 1944
  • 1943 and 1944 Lend Lease factories are now properly set to "Soviet" control which
should allow for the Lend Lease equipment to be produced
  • 3rd Rum. Army now has proper leader in 1944 Campaign - Petre Dumitrescu.

Whats the trick to be able to download? I am being asked for an FTP username and password, which I never had to use before.

My login and password for the forums doesnt work. My login and password for the members club does not work. The login anonymous thing does not work either. What do I need to do?

(hope you guys haven't skipped out early for the Holidays [:)] )

Mine worked perfectly. Are you sure you are using the correct Members Area password (which is different from the forum password).

Just to confirm (using my first Beta patch): Feature, Rule, and Bug changes are immediate, Data/Scenario changes only take effect when starting a new scenario/campaign?

Here is a step by step of exactly what happens. (patched this way every time with no problems ever)

1. click link in post above.
2. link takes me to members download page.
3. verify that indeed I am signed in ( it says welcome baelfiin on the right hand side)
4. click link to download patch.
5. Up pops a box that says FTP server username and password required.
-- screen shot of what I see, as far as I can tell i should have no problems

I'd assume too many open connections and the FTP is acting up.

Does this impact the turn one Axis airfield attacks?

4) Formula change - Tripled the losses during air recon missions.

Crap, there goes the neigborhood. I was enjoy launching 100+ recon missions in a turn while only suffering 2 lost/3 damaged A/C for all my efforts. Oh well, it couldn't last forever.

This was done done to reign in the alleged Soviet attritional airbase attacks. (I say alleged because I haven't found this to be particularly effective post 1.05.)

You can blame James for this change. He flies like a bazillion recon missions.

Hmm a little experimenting and it seems that it does.

Interesting impact on turn one.

Well when I play Soviet I do not attack Axis airbases 10-15 times a turn as I found the tactic somewhat bloody. As Axis however I have run into Soviet players doing this mainly because they have a 10-1 advantage in airframes in 1943 even with me killing over 40k and running a 10-1 kill ratio. They have the airframes to throw away so they do so.

I suppose it will come out in the wash but there will be an impact on turn one Axis airbase attacks.

Guilty, as charged. The only thing stopping me from flying more, is worrying about exceeding the 1000 battle per turn limit, and causing the overflow to screw up the battle displays...[:D]

James and I must think alike. Checked the CR and logged 273 recon missions in AGS sector alone. I have yet to do AGN and AGC, which, when complete, would bring me close to JAMiAM's magical 1000 number. It did seem unrealistic to lose only 5 A/C (3 of them Rumanian) while not even providing an escort. Well, it was fun while it lasted. Maybe I'll have to start providing escorts to (hopefully) offset the increased losses.

1) Rule Change - In order for an air unit to participate in a daylight airfield attack mission, it

This sounds like another drawback for the German Luftwaffe at turn one. This rule should be only for
Soviets in 41-42. Germans were flying a lot more missions/day than Soviets did. Average German pilot
did 3-6 missions/day, while Soviet pilot did something like 1-2/day at early weeks. Later they didin't fly more
than 1 mission / 3 days!

This is not the correct way to fix things out. Germans should have more flight time and Soviets less.
Also German planes were a lot more modern than Soviets. They should be more effective and durable.
Currently 60x I-16 planes can beat down 12x ME-109f while in real those ME:s could rape down
all of those old ones without any losses. Then there is morale factor. After few weeks of Barbarossa,
Soviet pilots were scared to even come up to air. They knew they will be wiped out. There are evidence
where one single ME-109 patrolling over Soviet airbase, could paralyze it totally and preventing anyone
to to come up to air. Things changed dramatically late -42. Thats how things were in real. Camoon.

Now that I think about it this 50% mileage rule does not change a thing when it comes to Soviets being able to saturate LW bases with multiple attacks. They can still launch dozens of attacks by just limiting each attack to certain air units and rotating them out once they hit the 50% mark. Using the shift key to select raid participants you can do this. That is how I tested the rule for turn one as Axis.

The real answer to this issue is to limit the number of attacks a base can sustain. This will enable the Axis airbases to be spread out more and not have to be clumped together. It will still limit turn one Soviet losses but it addresses the problem long term as opposed to just limiting the Axis on turn one and forcing the Soviet to use a work around.

Hi

I am unable to log onto the server, not sure why?

Yes the plane rule is another slam to the Germans and joy for Russians.
