Mod Combination help needed

Post by LoBaron »

I´d like to try a modded game for once (always played stock up to now).

The following criteria should be met:
- No SF series/movies mod, I prefer to keep the original races
- the game should end up completely modded, so no mixture of modded/unmodded designs of ships for example
- these parts interest me the most: ship mods, planet textures, weapon mods

Up to now I found a couple of mods that look interesting, really a lot of talent around here.

I am a bit confused by the diversity and sometimes redundancy of mods though. So my question would be:
Based on the above criteria, what would you recommend as a good combination of mods, and did I leave out some essential
eyecandy stuff?

Any help is apprechiated.

Woodman's Diverse Worlds ship images.
Kalthaniell's weapon mods (need to back up weapon images you replace if you want to revert)
There is a planet texture mod out there but I'm not a fan, I saw artefacts like white lines around planets that seemed odd.

For shipsets, I think you should get WoodMan's Diverse Worlds mod . However, it's still not complete, but almost there and it's ruddy good!

For planet textures, I'd direct you towards ConflictX's planet overhaul, he made replacement images for all the Barren planets.

You should also download my own Planet replacement mod . It's not finished and I don't think I'll ever get round to it now. Sorry about that. I seem to remember someone else doing some planets, but I think the names clashed with some of mine. Don't know where the thread is now.

For new race files to improve the gameplay, try either the1sean's redux mod, or alexalexuk's AI improvement mod .

There are some weapons mods out there, but I keep coming back to my own Star Trek weapons mod. I haven't modded any of the beam weapons though.

Hope that helps you get started. Have a look through lordxorn's mod compendium thread for more links.

Thank you guys!

Can I combine Diverse Worlds with Kalthaniell´s ship mod?
And if yes, how can I make sure that the AI races use them, and not the stock ships?

You can for sure and the instructions on how to do it should be on his thread in the initial post.

OK, shameless plug. In my defense, my ship set has gotten buried in the back of the forum.

Link to the development thread: tm.asp?m=2646645 You get to see how it started to how it ended.
