Campaign game

Post by rickier65 »

Mark,

I reloaded the Release version and then reloaded your save files. I started with your save game from the scenario before you had your CTD. I finsihed that scenario then started Game 14. I played through and on T22 had the CTD while trying to load the end screen.

But I had kept plenty of saved games, so I started backing up and found that if I surrendered around Turn 6, it would let me proceed to the end game screen and then I was able to load and start playing Game 15.

I haven't pinned down what happened between T6 and T8 that caused the problem. I'm going to look at those a few more times and check a coupld of things. I only played a couple of turns of Game 15 and then surrendered to see and it proceeded to next game. But I didn't play Game 15 out to see what would happen if I won.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks
Rick

Thanks Rick,

I'll have a go at surrenderring and see if I can play through game 15. I'll let you know how I go. Just a quick question: How do you surrender?

Thanks for all your time and effort on this issue. I really appreciate it.

you can surrender using the q key. I've been trying to narrow down what causes it to fail by trying to play through saving and surrending each turn.

I don't think surrendering will help on your orignal saved game turn. I tried that and it still failed. I had to back up several turns. Unfortuanately I still don't know what's causing it to fail.

Thanks

Mark,

I've been going over the campaign again. I noticed that your zipfile for your campaign files had about 70 scenarios, but your campaign was only 36 battles. I went through and deleted those scenarios that disn't belong to the campaign. but oddly enough, i also saw the time stampe on the first scenario in campaign was about 3 hours off from the rest of the scenario in the campaign.

Anyway, I started from the Game 13 save you provided, then early in game 14 I surrendered, then played through game 15 and it ended and proceeded on to game 16.

This was all with the original release version of PCO, no beta patches installed.

I'm still not sure what hppened to those two scnarios, there is still something else I want to check. I'm mainly wanting to see if I see something that might happen to someone else, though I don't think we've had reports of others with this same problem.

Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the info. I restarted Game 14 and surrendered as you suggested which got me through to Game 15. I am now into about turn 3-4 and will let you know if I have any problems.

Thank you so much for all the effort you have put into looking into my problem. It just confirms how good you guys are at supporting your games and your customers. Can't say thanks too much!!

Hi Rick,

I have had another CTD with game 17 in the 1st Panzer random campaign. It happened on turn 18 Reaction phase as it was attempting to load the Orders phase. Not sure what the reason was but I have retried playing the game and the same thing happens when I receive off-board reinforcements. Anyway, I will reload the setup phase and surrender and see if I can continue the campaign.

Mark,

Thanks for the update Mark. for your last CTD, I'm fairly sure it was related to a problem loading the victory screen. Do you have any other Random Campaigns going on that at same time? It shouldn't matter, but I never was able to identify what caused the first problem.

Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick,

Its me again. I have had another CTD with the 1st Panzer Random Campaign, this time at the loading phase of the new scenario. I get the force selection screen OK and can select forces and then select start. The scenario starts to load but just before finishing I get a CTD. I have posted the log file to the bottom of this email. It looks like there is some issue with loading a russian infantry animation but not sure why this would be the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Mark C.

Hi Rick,

Zip file attached. I hope I have included all required files.

Regards,

Mark,

I was not able to load from those files. One thing I noticed from the previous reveiw of the campaign files is that there were multiple Random Campaign scenario files, for more than one Random Campaign. This should be ok, but perhaps it isn't.

The log file error message I see in the log indicates a problem loadning one of the infantry meshes, but I checked and on my version at least and that mesh is there and it appears to be one of the older mesh files so it should be there regardless of your version. I also converted your Random Campaign Scenario into a fixed battle, and was able to load it fine as well.

I'm still thinking that your campaign scenario files got corrupted some way. I think your best bet would be to do a clean install, and start a new campaign. Make sure you delete all random campaigns before starting another. You can do that in the Random Campaign Selection screen. There is an 'x' on a red button on the first line adjacent to the name of the currently selected Random Campaign. Clicking that button will delete the random campaign files.

But I would do a short campaign rather than long, because you won't want to apply the new patch in the middle of the campaign.

Sorry I wasn't able to find the problem on this.

Thanks
rick

Hi Rick,

Thanks for all the efforts you have put in to trying to determine the problems I am experiencing. I'll take your advice and see what transpires. Its frustrating not to be able to continue the campaign but after all it is only a game.

Kind regards,

Mark C.
