GC 41 Herman (axis ) vs Mazzah ( Commie )

It's june 22, 1941 and after a late breakfast the Axis legions are unleashed upon an unsuspecting Russia. The initial air battles are a huge, but costly success. Well over half the Luftwaffe is now out of action with 3200 damaged and over 100 aircraft destroyed. hopefully the damage We caused will keep the Red airforce out of the game long enough to recover

In Army group North the initial rush crosses the Dvinsk and blocks the Baltic Ports. Reinforcements ( 2 Infantry corps ) are rushed North from 4th Army to the 16th Army area. In the Center 2 large pockets are created west of Minsk and the Pripyat Marshes entered. The majority of 2nd Panzer Army is diverted to the South for the capture of Kowel and 3rd Panzer Army takes up the slack pockets are a bit loose but Im hoping distance works as a buffer. In the South 2 more loose pockets are formed at Kowel and Lvov but unfortunately the Marshes cant be effectively secured so the rail lines are cut.

Casualties Turn 1

Turn 2 has come and gone for the axis. My opponent has shown himself to be aggressive and resourceful so my intended all - out strategy may not work as planned. In the North he has pulled back to Pskov, abandoning Riga and screening the Baltic States. In the center he has pulled back to the Berezina and attempted a stand. the pocket held but he managed to merge the pockets and created a slight delay. unfortunatly my spearhead panzer divisions in the North, at vitebsk, the southern landbridge and mogilev are dangerously exposed due to his actions and the loss of most of 2nd panzer army to ags. the pripyat are 60% cleared as is the lvov pocket but he broke open the kowel pocket and created mayhem before reinforcements arrived to reseal and stabilize the area. almost no progress was made as the panzers had to fight out of the bag and reseal the pocket. the Romanians are advancing slowly and hope to be in Odessa by 1960. lot of loose ends - hope he comes forward to fight rather than fortify. in the air war 500 russian vs 150 german planes were downed as a result of low settings on the interdiction mission.

Turn 3 was a debacle on the german side as massive soviet counterattacks in the south stalled our attack and opened thee lvov pocket, allowing many soviet units to escape. Bitter fighting in the center and north leaving a german motorised division isolated at vitebsk... can they hold one more turn ? on the Romanian front the enemy has disappeared for the moment.

One thing im seeing is a very high proportionate loss of armor and motorised units. he's definetely going all out to defend forward - lets see what the rear lines look like
