Anyone play micro armor out there?

Post by morvwilson »

Introduced my sons to modern micro armor.
We simulated a Syrian assault on the Golan Heights where highway 90 meets 899.
Israeli oob: 8 Merkava mk3's, two platoons of infantry in M113's, two batteries 120mm mortars.

Syrian oob: 21 T74's, 13 BMP-1's, 4 brdm2's and one battery 122mm spa.

Result: decisive defeat for Syria. After 4 turns, Syria retreated with 3 T74's and 5 BMPs. Israeli losses were one Merkava.

Great fun for dad and kids[;)]

Your wife is thinking it would take less time to hang that picture then it did to set up the game table. Good thing it was quality family time.

Looking at this makes me think of my Starfleet Battles days with the counters all over my table and month long gaming sessions after school. Man, we had some glorious carnage.

I iz Human by birth but Klingon by choice [:D]

I remember an SFB senario where we had to attack a Starbase.. it took 6 hours just to get my ships into position [:D]

As for Flames of War, the models are resin castings and I have to say that I found some of them easy to break, just by holding them to tightly. The main culprit being the side armour added to the sides of the Panzer 4's and Stugs... Very easy to repair though [;)]

Did you use free movement or pre plotted gameplay? I had to attack a fed starbase as the Romulans once. I had some Eagles, sparrowhawks and a Nova Hawk. Hours later the fed starbase was wrecked and I had a crippled Eagle. I tried to close in with a final plasma but I still got blown up.
The Fed player stood up from the table, shook my hand and told me he admired the determination of me trying to get in that last shot.

Even in table war-games there is honor. [&o]

I wanted to start playing Flame of Wars about a year ago but it turned out that a local game store that used to sell them and host games completely dropped tabletop wargames and boardgames and switched to Magic the Gathering.

In this battle we used free movement and I just pretty much winged it as I went along. It would probably have been better to use pre-plotted movement, that way I could have kept better track on what 'main attack ships' the support vessels(ecm ships etc ) were lending their speciality too. It all kind of got bogged down when I fired off several volleys of drones and a few scatterpacks, the plan was to clear they way through the protective minefield and hitting the Starbase would be a bonus [:D]

This was all over 20 years ago and was one of the biggest battles I ever played.

Cheers
