Basicly there are 3 main ways to speed things up.

1. play on smaller maps

2. with less AI players.

3. get a faster PC

though i must say 5 min+ for a small map seems excessive to me... if you want a benchmark send the game to me at vic@xs4all.nl and i'll tell you how long the AI takes on my computer.

best,
Vic

hi,
If your talking about the AI's turn, mine was taking 10+ minutes on med map with 4 ai players. Mine laptop is not cutting edge or even close, but i turned off the real time AI and it cut the AI turns to a couple minutes. Thought i was never going to play any larger maps, but i'll give large maps a shot when i'm more used to the game. Thx Vic.. the new patches cut the start up time a great deal also.

This game is a two ai vs 1 human player it started off very quick under 20sec to process the ai turns and now many many turns later and many units later its more like 5 min at a time which is slow even for me considering its only a small map.I hate to think what it would be if it were on a medium or large map.Is it acceptable to play your turn for say 5 mins during which you move a few counters research some stuff, build some stuff and then wait for over 5 min that would take for ever to finish a battle against a big map.I thought atgold was gonna have some heavy optimization done to speed up the ai and make a game playable in 1 sitting.

What times do you guys get when playing the next turn in this game myne is 6 min 34 sec ?

Thanks for the heads-up on "real time" AI turned-off. I'll have to try that...

1 min, 26 seconds for me. Much longer than I expected. It seemed to take a long while to get going but once it was running it went fast.

You generally decide that when you start a new game. If you decide to play on a big map with many AI regimes you have to be prepared to take a tea/coffee/cola/beer break every turn to let AIs move :)

I usually pay bills, watch tv and browse the internet between turns

27.85 seconds here.

It's always been quick for me, but I wouldn't mind letting the AI take awhile. It'll still be faster than I am, and faster than waiting for a PBeM response.
