Help with scenario.

Post by Fjell75 »

I am very interested in and have read alot of the Italian-Ethiopian War. I noticed some scenarios from this war in Rugged Defence. Both are for the CoW version. When I try to place the scenario in the scenario folder and load it, I get an error message. I have 3.4 (the newest patch). Is it possible for me to play those scenarios?

Thanx
Anders :)

I'd try opening the editor, loading the scenario, and then saving it. It should then be updated and playable.

I get a message when I try to open the .scn file in the editor (happens to all CoW scenarios): "Parent units are invalid" or something like that.

That's strange. Doan happen to me. Leas' ways, I doan think it do.

I suppose I'd have to go find some ACOW scenario somewhere that wasn't on the Matrix download, try loading it, and see if this happens. Brb...

So much for that. All my old (and never finished) scenarios are already on the Matrix version. The most neglected of them opens just fine. Right now, Ben and I are playing 'Agonia y Victoria.' That opens just fine too. Of course, it also is in the Matrix scenario folder.

What's a specific scenario that this happens with and where is it? I'm mainly interested in isolating where the problem is. If there's something I can open in the editor, and you can't, then there's something wrong with your program.

Well, I found an old version of Seelowe that I'd moved over to this computer. It wasn't a file in the Matrix folder.

...and it opened in the editor. For what that is worth.

They are the only two scenarios in the Italian-Ethiopian War folder. I tried to open Ethiopia in TOAW and got the same error. I tried to open it in COW 1.0 and it wouldn't open. From the scenario read me document :

You must have TOAW-COW version 1.04.01 installed. This scenario will not work with TOAW.

I don't know what that is about. Maybe if I get 1.04 I can try it again.

From a post on the same subject at Rugged Defense :

(after the newest patch Vol3 seems to be unable to load "small map" CoW scenarios).

War in Europe is a bit of a monster, but starts off with a very good Ethiopian campaign.

Is that a scenario already in the toaw 3.4 scenario list?

No idea ... I still use XP and 98. lol.

On these old systems, right click the file name and select 'rename' to change the file extension. File extensions must be 'unhidden' in the folder options.

Failing that, send me an e-mail by clicking my name to the left <<< and I will e-mail you the file.
