I need help with automated SU moves and manual settings

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

I need help with automated SU moves and manual settings

Post by heliodorus04 »

I know you can change the settings manually from 0 to 9 of any HQ.

I'm playing in a Locked game, and I'm trying to figure out how to logically move SUs from some corps/Army that are just GLUTTONS, to corps/armies that need more SUs.

Before I forget though, when you're doing it manually (spending Admin Points), is it possible for a unit from (for example) Army Group North's 18 Army ->TO->Army Group South's 1 Panzer Group.

I thought that would be possible, but it doesn't seem like all HQs show up in the list of HQs you're able to manually assign the SU to.

Okay, here's my specific situation:

Army Group Center's 9th Army (the green army) has a corps (8 Corps) that has TWENTY-TWO SUs. Half of them good.

Germany's 2nd Army (the light blue army) got attached to Army Group North earlier. It has zero SUs in the Army, and only a couple in the various Corps. It NEEDS some of those SUs. I can't afford to spend APs to move 15 SUs (but if that's a misconception on my part, let me know).

So my problem now is setting SU support levels manually so that the 15 or so SUs go out of 8 Corps to 9th Army, then out of 9th Army to Army Group Center, then...
You get the point.

I don't mind if this takes 1 turn for SUs to leave one command. Patience is the tradeoff for no cost, and maybe if it gets critical, I spend some AP anyway.

What I'm trying to avoid is for SUs to stop moving from source to destination - either to get stuck somewhere for a turn, or worse, for them to trickle back to their original Corps or Armies.

Can someone give me a step-by-step of how to arrange the settings? Is it all in one turn, or over several by watching the flow of SUs?

You have to be within the command range of the new HQ to be able to transfer into it. Or, you don't have the points.

Strange- my 2nd Army seems to not get many SU's either.

You need to "Lock" OKH and all the other HQ's too. I lock all my HQ's to prevent SU from moving to other HQ's. That allows me to place them where I want them.

Once you lock OKH, you can open each SU you want to move and then change HQ to OKH. The next turn, go to Corps you want SU in and click assign. You will see a huge list. Range is no factor if pulling from OKH.

It probably won't cost much AP's to send to OKH and then next turn to pull them from OKH.

That is a long way. I have yet to out run OKH. But I think I never get a true free transfer, most cost me 1 AP per transfer.

Hmm, I'm looking at my problem corps, and OKH doesn't even appear as eligible (yet I'm within 90 hexes of OKH, easily).
Any idea why that would be?

Drive OKH close to the desired HQ.

Open OKH window

Click on su to be transferred

Click on HQ to get the reassign HQ list

Transfer to the corps

ITS FREE THIS WAY

Just means driving OKH close enough so that the desired corps is in range

Or for the lazy

With locked HQ's

transfer excess su's to OKH

Next turn open desired corps HQ

Click assign

assign from list

this way costs an extra AP

The problem is either range, or density. If more than 19 HQs are in transfer range, not all will appear on the list, never more than 19. Eg: I still haven't figured if those 19 are strictly range based, or if unit # in the editor plays a role, as in a few cases I've had OKH appear, while nearer HQs (also in range) do not.  This is of course only applicable to manual transfers.

Except for the very beginning, this isn't a big deal for corps to corps and the like, but anything involving army group or OKH, it means you are often times unable to transfer to HQs that you should be able to, simply because the list doesn't have more slots.

This has probably been asked before.
Is there a way to Lock all HQ SU settings?

I messed up on the Commanders Report and set them all to 0...
/edit
Nevermind

Enter minus-1 (i.e., -1) in the Support Level from the HQ menu of the commanders report

Only by selecting "lock" in the initial game setup
