Locating Population Size of towns/cities

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Locating Population Size of towns/cities

Post by Senno »

Please pardon me if this has been brought up before.

Locating the population size of the small towns (critical during the blizzard) is taking far to many clicks for me and my bad wrist. Is there any possibility that the size of the town may be viewable in the box in the top right on the map, or, alternatively by a different style of dot for the various sizes of towns?

Loving the game, and have fired up a new game with the new beta to give it a whirl.

Cheers,

The other time this becomes problematic is when the Russians are moving industry. You can't even mouse over a pop center and know what it has for population after you have loaded up a factory. Not a game breaker, but annoying.

Good idea! Just a slight difference in dot size would do it. I would like to have names on towns as well! I want to know what place I am fighting for!

Ask and ye shall receive!!!   I also got tired of hunting & pecking on the towns, so I color-coded the little dots on the Russian portion of the map.  You can download the revised map here:

http://www.filefactory.com/file/b55eg68/n/blizzard.zip

Unzip the files & place them in the ..\Dat\Art\Zoom2 directory of your WITE installation.  Don't forget to back up the original files first.  I make no promises concerning the accuracy of my work.

The colors definitions are:

Red      - Population 4
Yellow  - Pop. 3
Green   - Pop. 2
White   - Pop. 1
Black    - Pop. 0

I've added a pop info in the brackets after the city's name

Yeah ,same problem here. Several things could be made easier, like "move all x to OKH". As it is too many clicks.

NCDawg and Helpless, those are both excellent (and very fast) results. Amazing response from a modder and a Dev. I've been playing games for a long, long time and have not seen any support like the support here. Thank you both. I went to bed with a problem, and awoke with a solution.

You are welcome! I actually did the work last night as an exercise to learn how to use a new graphics editor that I recently downloaded. This morning I saw your message & uploaded the files.

Great work Helpless!

Now that I've buttered you up.. any chance of adding some text in the unit info about the withdraw of a unit? If applicable, some text for units:

'Withdrawn 12/5/1942 (25)'

It helps with planning to know more than 5 turns out when an unit might be withdrawing. I know you can look at all withdraws and reinforcements on a screen, but that's a little hard to find a single unit say for a campaign game.

Holy moly. The change made it (unannounced) into today's new Beta. Into the game in less than 24 hours. That's some customer service![8D]
