NSY vs MSY
Does anyone have a reference list of what ship class is built in which Shipyard? Some are quite obvious ... others less so. Thanks for the help.

RE: NSY vs MSY
USN subs were pretty limited. From memory just Mare Island, Electric Boat in Groton, CT, Portsmouth NSY, Cramp Shipbuilding in Pennsylvania, and Manitowoc, WI.

RE: NSY vs MSY
Your landing craft were built all over the US, they will be awful hard to pin down. Kiaser (SP?) build a large number of the AK's (liberty ships) out in California but almost any port with open slips built them too. We had them built here in Jacksonville Fl. Most of your yards that built the xAK, AK, Lxx they are all closed and might be a bear to track down.
RE: NSY vs MSY
A lot of LSTs were built on rivers in the middle of the USA( Ohil, Indiana? ).

Many ships that could be lifted were built on the Great Lakes then lifted to the Ohio River or Mississippi River en route to NOLA.

The Supplement and General Index (Vol. XV) of History of United Stated Naval Operations in World War II has a listing of ship classes and for most of them the shipyards where the individual ships were built.
For instance the two Lexington class carriers were built by the Fore River Shipbuilding Co., (Quincy, MA) and the New York Shipbuilding Co. and the battleship California was built at the Mare Island Navy Yard.

Thanks for the inputs. You guys went a bit deeper than I intended.
I'm trying to determine which ship classes in WitPAE are built in Naval Shipyards (NSY) as opposed to Merchant shipyards (MSY) so that I can plan my ship building accordingly.

That may not really be possible on the ship class level. A lot of classes (if not most) had ships built both by Naval Shipyards and civilian shipyards.

RE: NSY vs MSY
Pax,
It looks like you should have put a big "In-game, when playing Japan" in the subject title ...
Anyway, here is the scoop, as I understand it:-
Naval = CV, CVL, BB, CA, CL, DD, SS
Merchant = CVE + PC + SC + All tenders + All transports + All minesweepers/minelayers
That leaves CS & E which I am not sure about, and I may be wrong about some of the above too.
What's weird is that this was in the WitP manual but doesn't seem to be in the AE one. Or maybe I'm just blind ...

RE: NSY vs MSY
During World War II, the Evansville, Indiana, riverfront was transformed into a 45-acre (180,000 m2) shipyard to produce LSTs. At its peak, the Evansville Shipyard employed a workforce of over 19,000 and completed two of these massive ships per week, becoming the largest inland producer of LSTs in the nation. Although the Evansville Shipyard was originally contracted to produce 24 ships, 167 LSTs and 35 other vessels were built in Evansville. LST-325 is now home ported in Evansville as a memorial museum to LSTs and the city's war effort.

Ahhh, it was the smaller ships, the SC's and E's that I was really not sure about ... they are so small, hard to tell. Thanks!

I bet using Tracker would help clear up the uncertainties here ...

RE: NSY vs MSY
Tracker does indeed reveal all.
Naval Shipyards produce:-
CV, CVL, BB, CA, CL, DD
E, APD, SC
CM, CMc
MGB, MTB, ML
SS, SST, SSX
Merchant Shipyards produce everything else.

THANKS! I thought of that myself just an hour ago ... better late than never!

From tracker code these are the types for Naval builds (this was tested a long time ago so unless there has been changes it still applies)... sorry not got enough time to make it readable.
