MODDING Tool - Biases Generation / Editing

Post by Haree78 »

Hi all

Thought something like this needed creating for easy manipulation of Biases within a mod / theme.
Hope this helps.

This was created for and tested against Public 1.501 Beta 1 Let me know if you find any problems or have any suggestions.

DO NOT SELECT races.txt IN YOUR DEFAULT INSTALL DIRECTORY, IT WILL OVERWRITE YOUR DEFAULT FILES. Included a default biases.txt in case you do.

Very useful indeed, Haree. Thank you. [:)]

Looks like it works nicely too. I'm just wondering what the function of the 'create bias file' option is? If I select this, it presents me with the browser to open an existing file. It then opens the file with all the correct race names, but it zero's all the entries, effectively clearing all the biases.

The edit bias file option seems the safer one to me.

Very nice work with this. [&o]

It's for creating a "fresh" biases.txt file from a races.txt file from the theme folder. If you have a mod that has a bunch of races in it already defined but no biases.txt file then this would generate the biases.txt file for you. Of course it cannot inherently know what the biases should be so by default everything is 0 against each other.

So for example if you were creating a Star Trek mod, you would define your Klingons and your Romulans in your races file, open the races.txt file within the Bias File Generator and then set each relationship manually before clicking the button to generate the file.

Ah, I see now. [;)]

I wasn't sure what the difference between the 2 was, but this means it actually puts in all the race names for us. Very handy. [8D]

Nice, I look forward to checking this out. Would it be too much to ask for screenies?

Thanks guys, hope people find it useful. I'm no GUI designer and it probably shows.

It looks good to me dude!  Very nice app indeed.  Were you the guy behind the race editor for original DW too?

Hey Arcatus, I haven't looked at this a long time, as a software engineer I tend to just go in and edit the files directly.
This should work fine however the create bias file option wont work with current themes because the races.txt file isn't used any more and there are now individual race files.

I'm not even sure I kept the source files to this app. May check it out because it's not a massive update to change to work with the current version of Legends.

Oh, sorry, don't worry about it.
I didn't notice that I replied to a necro'ed thread...

And not much use of updating something now anyway... better to wait for shadows [;)]
