Larry Bond’s Harpoon – Ultimate Edition Now Available!

Post by SeanD »

20 Years of Harpoon – this is Harpoon - Ultimate Edition!

Matrix Games and Advanced Gaming Systems (www.computerharpoon.com) are thrilled to announce that Larry Bond’s Harpoon – Ultimate Edition is now available for purchase! This comprehensive bundle, unlike any that has previously been released for Harpoon on the computer, represents a digital history and "Collector's Edition" of Harpoon that every Harpoon gamer will want to have on their shelf for years to come.

Larry Bond’s Harpoon - Ultimate Edition is the most powerful and complete modern naval warfare simulation on the market and a must have for any Harpoon fan! Owners of Harpoon 3 Advanced Naval Warfare or Harpoon Commander’s Edition are entitled to a $25 discount on the purchase of Larry Bond’s Harpoon – Ultimate Edition.

Please note that physical boxed versions of Harpoon – Ultimate Edition will be available after November 15th, but are not available at release.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “If you like modern naval combat, Harpoon is the most detailed and realistic simulator on the market. The Ultimate Edition of Harpoon contains virtually everything from this fantastic product’s long lineage and it deserves a place in any naval warfare fan’s game library!”

Harpoon – Ultimate Edition is the best and most comprehensive compilation of computer Harpoon games ever assembled! The two flagship products in the Harpoon line up, Advanced Naval Warfare and Commander’s Edition come highly expanded and improved from their previous versions. Advanced Naval Warfare comes with a full suite of editors, upgrades and expansion to the sonar models, boarding actions, encrypted databases, and more! Commander’s Edition sports an all new EMCON AI, an expanded WestPac BattleSet, a greatly improved HCDB database, and more!

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Harpoon and give fans who enjoy playing the older versions a great archival edition, Harpoon – Ultimate Edition includes more than 20 previous releases of Computer Harpoon including Harpoon 3 v3.63 and Harpoon Classic. This allows players who have databases or scenarios tied to these older versions to continue to enjoy them for years to come, and it will also allow new players who purchase the Ultimate Edition access to this rich older content.

Features include:
  • The most complete anthology of computer Harpoon ever assembled with builds stretching from Harpoon Alpha 880916 all the way to the latest and greatest versions of Advanced Naval Warfare (v3.10) and Commander’s Edition (v2009.050)!
  • Plenty of extras and bonuses like new editors, more documentation, and improved art
  • Tons of features and improvements to both Advanced Naval Warfare and Commander’s Edition
New Features for Harpoon – Advanced Naval Warfare
  • Encrypted databases
  • Boarding actions
  • Sonar upgrades to model sonar closer to the actual Bond/Carlson models
  • Includes all the powerful editors
    • Game based Scenario Editor (H3SE)
    • Game based Database Editor (H3DC)
    • MS Access based Reimer Database Editor (H3RE)
  • And more!
New Features for Harpoon – Commander’s Edition
  • Expanded WestPac BattleSet as seen in the HCE Demo!
  • New EMCON AI that tells the AI when to turn on sensors and prompts player to turn on sensors. It is now much more intelligent and at times sneaky.
  • An Updated HCDB Database
  • Many new hotkeys for a wide variety of interface controls
  • Implemented a new Escort jamming model with greater variability in the protection a jammer can offer nearby groups against distant radars.

Sean, I own both ANW and CE and would very much like to get both the digital and physical versions. Would you recommend waiting till Nov. 15?

Yes, if you want the physical version please wait until it is available. We can't add it to your order later on if you order now, so waiting is the better option.

A few questions please , I am unclear about

The reimer editor is this the updated one for use in ANW or the original for use with harpoon 3 ?

is the reimer editor compatable with excel 2003 and later since I had problems with original. Similarly the editor for use in HCE , some issues when using excel 2003

thanks

The HCE Reimer Editor is compatible with Access 97 through Access 2010.

The version we call H3RE is for ANW and we use it in Access 2003 and Access 2007. It has not been tested in Access 2010 (it should work).

But I'm talking about Microsoft Access (TM) not Microsoft Excel (TM).....

What do you have in mind for Excel?

And ... we did have one report of problems with German editions of Windows/Office and the game but nothing we can confirm in Texas.

We are building the patches for the updates and should have those links posted next week.

However, please be clear that these only update the EXE. None of the editors, artwork, nor the historical versions are included.

Understood.

I do plan on getting UE. But before I buy yet another copy of Harpoon, I'd like to try the patch. I want to be sure that 3.10 actually fixes the major issues with the game (ANW) without introducing any new show stoppers.

Congrats! [:D]

Thank you very much for your amazing support for the game that has been out this long!

Couldn't prepare more than 2G bytes in space for H:UE, so just installed H3ANW 3.10.0 and now working pretty well! [8D]

No hard-copy manual according to Matrix due to the large number of pages in the manuals (both making it about $40 more expensive and making it too big for the standard packaging).

They aren't posted yet.  On the HC side I haven't even assembled the files yet for submission to Matrix, Russell seemed more on the ball with ANW though.

I have a dumb question. The product info page isn't quite clear which product is basically the end product which would have all of the new features and scenarios from all of the Harpoon game versions? Is it the Harpoon Ultimate Commanders Edition? I'm assuming that the 3.63 is first followed by the 3.94. I'm assuming the Ultimate ANW is next followed by the HUCE version. Is the scenario editor also in the final HUCE version? Hope someone is still watching this forum and can give me a good answer.
