Indeed. Perhaps a high percentage of the damaged planes went down? Even so, that doesnt seem to add up either.

Combat report is unreliable.

61 were shot down including Ops losses on the way home.

CR is worthless for losses in the air it always under reports them I though it was a well known fact ??

Next day the Dominators came back and 19 never made it home (CR shows 5 lost) this is typical Joe I see it in all myt games

ps aircraft late war with lots of defensive guns and dur in the 60's are beatable if you mass enough.

B17 D E & F's in 42 with that Durability now thats tough

Stats wise a B17 in 42 is almost as tough as a B29 in 45 and toughter than a Dominator.

And in 42 the Japanese have little to take em down with as you need cannon armed aircraft

33% attrition of the above raid in one day is unsustaiable [:D][:D]

Ah

My Late war equallant will look somthing like:

250x Ki84 Frank
200x N1K George

Fighting those 300 or so B29's there..

**
PDU=ON and all Navy Fighters may upgrade to George is on
All Re-sizable navy groups have 80 in group size.

And from 1942 I have been investing in this two Aircrafts.. now have 5500 Nakaima Ha-45's in Pool, and George will be starting production at 350 pr month from 4/43,
and Frank will (so far estimate) start production at 8/43. [:D]

Probably didn't help they attacked in the middle of a typhoon.

I had to go look up what a B-32 was. Never got past mid 43 in a WITP or WIP/AE game. [:)]

B29's are only survivable at nighht against serious sustained fighter cover IMO

I've been listening to "Whirlwind" on my commute. I also read a book earlier specifically on the B-29 and its ops against Japan. The biggest problems weren't the fighters up against them, but, when bombing from altitude, the strong winds screwing up the bomb pattern and the almost constant overcast over Japan. Furthermore, the inherent design problems with the engines which were strained at higher altitudes and provoked fires didn't help ops losses either. LeMay changed things and moved for low altitude night area firebombing. The engines ran better, the bombing could be more easily concentrated, and the Japanese had little night fighter capability in any case (along with the highly flammable cities)....
So much WitP and so little time to play.... :-(

Good to see that Japanese ramming attacks are more reasonable under the latest patch (I assume), both in frequency and in damage inflicted. The overall results seems to be reasonable for high concentration of late war heavily-armed fighters, assuming that most of Japanese pilots probably are bad or mediocre at this point.
