Late game empires with 300+ planets under control while facing off with several AI empires will bring a dual core down due to the sheer number of ships in the private sector.

As long as you have the latest version (DirectX 11) you will be fine. The newer versions are backwards compatible, meaning any game requiring an older version will run fine under Directx 11.

Yeah its quite slow, i think its just the way it was coded (you can see the main menu buttons pop-in and such).
Its a shame, i wish it had a huge licensed big budget engine that ran a bit better (yeah the cpu load will be the same, but the game has graphics-related slowdowns still when opening interface panels and zooming).

Then again its an amazing game so i just forget about the preformance issues, we cant have everything, yet [:)]

how far into a game have you gone? have to tried to colonize every single planet in a 1400 star game to see if your computer can handle it?

But mine's bigger. [;)]

Core I7 930 Quad, 12 GB of RAM. [:'(]

And no, I don't have slowdown issues with that system. But as mentioned earlier, when opening menus I still get a little graphics lag...usually after I get up around 80 planets and over 100 ships and bases. That is just from generating the list and graphics for it. Given the quality of the gameplay and the lack of micromanagement, I can deal with that little issue without complaint.

Geez, I just play on 100 stars. I find anything bigger than that, too much for my lil ole brain to handle.

You can install DX 9, it will coexist with DX 11. May or may not speed things up.

Not precisely. But I only play 1400 size systems and even when most of the galaxy is colonized, I don't experience lag.

I play smaller 700 system games mostly (due to personal preference, not system issues), but have no lag problems with the newest patch.
