Avatar help pls

I am having trouble getting my own avatar pic to show up on my profile.
First I tried uploading several jpegs and the system told me they "exceeded the dimension limits". So I searched the board and found a place where it said there were dimension limits but did not say what they were!!! [:@]

So then I opened paint an resized my avatar down several times until I was able to upload the pic and have it "accepted" by the board's software.
Then I hit the "Apply" button and went to one of my posts which I had previously made. I refreshed the screen and it removed the previous avatar [selected from the board's meager few when I registered] but does not show my uploaded one.

How did all you guys/gals with the cool avatar pics do it?? [&:]

Go to My Profile then.....
Click the button Use my picture (will replace the existing one) In My avatar.
Then Upload you're pic.
Size (145 X 145) Max of 750KB.

I also have the Use your avatar as Profile Photo box with a tick in it.
As i don't want a Profile Photo.
Click Apply,OK....Done!!


You can have a Profile Photo as well...if you want one.
Untick box for Use your avatar as Profile Photo .
Click Use my picture (will replace the existing one) In set up profile photo.
Size (290 X 290) Max 1000KB.
Upload pic Click Apply,OK.
Done!!

Thanks DS. I was doing the things you said and had an upload accepted by the board software but still no pic.
However, since you provided the limits [unlike the FAQ or any of the board forums], I further reduced my pic size from 240 horizontal pixels to 143
et voila! I now have my own avatar![8D]

D'oh! I saw the 750 KB file size but it never twigged that the 145X145 was pixels.
I'm an old guy and I was doing this at about 2:00 AM - those are my excuses and I'm sticking to them! [8|]

Hi all,im also having trouble this morning trying to find a pic for my profile ic ant find anything this size online and dont know how to shrink one?can anyone help point me perhaps to somewhere where there are some already made?that i can just copy n paste?thanks..
