The best Pacific Theater unit

Post by doomtrader »

Hi All,

I know it might be a little bit offtopic, but could you please tell me which was the best (or coolest) unit (let's say at least equal to battalion size) operating in Pacific Theater.

Of course post your opinion and share your thoughts about the choice. Also any link to background is welcome.

I think Mitzi Gaynor's unit was the most important, for keeping up morale.

I actually have always been very impressed with the Seabees engineering units. It's not only the front-line troops who were critical, but also logistics.

If you want some Raider history then try my late Dad's website: www.usmcraiders.com  We've got the basic history, lots of WW2 Raider pictures, a diary kept by a Raider and more!  Then you'll know why the Raiders are so respected in the Corps today.

Australian 39th Infantry Battalion. (with support!!)
here's why
[blockquote]"Australia, alone among combat nations, had no conscription: yet one in two Australian males aged 18 to 45 enlisted voluntarily. At peak, 89.4% of all males aged 14 or over were in the services or employed directly in war work". Willmott, H., P., The Second World War in the East, Cassell Publications UK. Another one would be;

1) the AA crusers that came out in late 42 or early 43
2) Japanese Landing forces
3) Taiho
4) Shokaku Class
5) Lexington Class
6) Kongo
7) Millennium Falcon
8) Agree the Marine Raider battalions
9) Tone Class

Ok more than one

Force 136 - purely for personal reasons.

Second choice would be the Chindits.
