DaBigBabes Release

Post by JWE »

DaBigBabes – Release v02. Files are in three consecutive posts, Dec. 7 start, Dec. 8 start and Ship Art. If scenario files require modification, the version number will cycle, the old file set removed and replaced by the new, and a title changelog put in the post.

Patch 4, or later, is “Required !!”. The Japanese AI files function fairly well. The Allied AI files not at all.

DaBigBabes_AE_Scen028_v01 : 07/02/10 : Full Campaign; Dec. 7 Start Deleted - Replaced with
DaBigBabes_AE_Scen028_v02 : 07/22/10 : Full Campaign; Dec. 7 Start Deleted - Replaced with
DaBigBabes_AE_Scen028_v03 : 09/04/10 : Full Campaign; Dec. 7 Start Deleted - Replaced with
DaBigBabes_AE_Scen028_v03a : 09/05/10 : Full Campaign; Dec. 7 Start Deleted - Replaced with
DaBigBabes_AE_Scen028_v04 : 10/29/10 : Full Campaign; Dec. 7 Start - Enhanced AAA Deleted - Replaced with

DaBigBabes_AE_Scen028_v05 : 03/27/11 : Full Campaign; Dec. 7 Start Tweaks to CD guns and naval guns to make naval bombardment more uniform.

Also includes the new map/base/art alternatives as option-B and the reduced cargo capacities as option-C for both scenarios. File size constraints required the alternative file folders, for both 028 and 029 to be included with the map stuff in the zip in post #3.

Don't forget to download the map stuff if you are playing option B or C..

The map stuff and the two folders with the alternate files for scen 028 and 029.

Borther OSO has done the necessary map work and uploaded the four complete map panels to his ftp site where users may download them (They're too big to be hosted here...).

The hex and non-hex versions for Andrew Brown's Stock Map can be downloaded through this link: http://eloso.3dretreat.com/AE/BigBabesMapPanels.zip

The hex and non-hex versions for the World in Flames style ocean hex grid can be downloaded through this link: http://eloso.3dretreat.com/AE/BigBabesWifMapPanels.zip

Many thanks to OSO. Enjoy !!

Is patch 4, 1.03.1102a or is it the beta that is out there right now?

Sorry. We're used to thinking in shorthand developer terms.

The Beta that is out there right now. And for those of you who look at this stuff, executable 1106d, or greater.

Fantastic work Guys. Thanks for your efforts. [&o]

Just one small suggestion for the next update. Could you please put in some Scen02x.txt files with a quick one page summary (visible in the scenario list) of what is special about these scenarios for those of us that didn't follow the development process on the forums.

Cheers,
Reg.

Hmmm... someone help me, please. I haven't been much of a reader of the Scenario Design sub-forum.

DaBigBabes is the standard scenario added with all historical ships that did not make the cut, right?

BabesLite Scen026 is standard Scen001 - BabesLite Scen027 is standard Scen006 – but with:

Classes and Ships – Many additions to historical OOB (both sides). More and different kinds of ARDs, tenders, transports, auxiliary trawlers, yard oilers, sea trucks, lots of smaller one-of-a-kind ships. Arrival dates and arrival locations vetted and adjusted. Submarines all have the split-tube model for more accurate combat results.

Devices – Naval Guns, DP Guns, and ship borne AA Guns, vetted and data adjusted for uniformity, relative comparability, and better fit (ioho) to the combat algorithm, of; Acc, Pen, Eff, Rng. Load Costs adjusted for torps and mines to give better reload flexibility.

Aircraft – same as stock
Airgroups – same as stock
Locations – same as stock
Leaders – same as stock
Pilots – same as stock
AI/Production – same as stock

Basically, BabesLite is what stock coulda, woulda looked like if Don Bowen had more time to spend on the OOB as opposed to being a code slave. We also receive regular input from the Land and Air people on error corrections, bug fixes, and data tweaks. The wpa, wpg, wpl files are thus a bit more up-to-date than the official stock version.

DaBigBabes is different - fundamentally different from stock in so many respects that, to understand what’s going on, one should really review the design process threads. Way too much going on to put into a summary paper.

For DaBigBabes;

Classes and Ships – Includes all BabesLite, but with many more additions to historical OOB (both sides), particularly late-war arrivals of warships, transports, landing craft, etc, suitable for Zipper, Buccaneer, Downfall, etc. File contents have been compacted and moved. Additional carriers and their airgroups are included. Using DBB Class and Ship files as the basis for Zipper, Buccaneer, Downfall, etc scenarios REQUIRES use of the corresponding Airgroup (wpgxxx.dat) files. Inputs provided by Don Bowen, Harald Velemans, Kereguelen, Buck Beach, Andrew Brown, Central Blue, Kitakami, mikemike, and many others (apologies for forgetting names – I’m old, and my memory is … what?).

Airgroups – Basically as in stock, but with additions/changes to conform to the added/relocated Classes/Ships. Vetted by Timtom. DBB Airgroup file is necessary with use of DBB Class and Ship files.

Devices – Includes all BabesLite, plus:
(1) Naval devices – All data elements vetted and data adjusted for uniformity, relative comparability, and better fit (ioho) to the SurfCom, AACom, SubCom, ASWCom, combat algorithms.
(2) Land devices – (a) Many new Eng types and NavSup types (both sides) to support the new TO&E paradigm. (b) Changes to LC and firepower of Squad-type devices to support the new TO&E paradigm. (c) Changes to LC and firepower of Vehicle and AFV-type devices to support the new TO&E paradigm.

Locations – The heart and soul of DBB.
(1) TO&Es – Many changes made in order to subsume the Device changes and to adapt the unit totals to the requirements of island stacking limitations and transport ship loading/carrying capacity considerations.
(2) OOB – The basic combat OOB is unchanged, however many units are aggregated and moved (which is why the AI won’t work for the Allies) in order to make room for several hundreds of changed/additional units. The changes involve a major paradigm shift with respect to how Base Forces, AirSup, NavSup, Engs, are handled.

Manually...

Allied ship art to: AlliedShip_Back, and the pink ones to: AlliedShip_Transp.

Japanese ship art: same as Allies with Japanese folders instead.

Scenario data: to the Scenario folder.
