Two small requests for Patch 3

Post by Pascal_slith »

Hi guys,

First request:
the TF screen shows in the upper left the distance in hexes that the TF can cover at its current speed (cruise, mission, full) and after the slash next to it, the distance in hexes to its destination PLUS the distance back to its home port.

My request is the following: could it not also display the distance to the destination hex alone AND the number of days travel to the destination hex?

Second request:
Not all the onscreen messages during a turn (e.g. 'failing watertight integrity...') appear in the Ops Report.

Could you have all onscreen messages appear in the Ops Report (except Combat Report items, of course)?

Thanks.

I'd like the hexes displayed like that, as well.  I don't need to be in a situation where I have to use full speed but am uncertain whether my TF will turn around and head home due to lack of fuel to continue at Full Speed all the way back to home port...

One thing desperately needed is a "Send all pilots to group/general reserve" button. Its murder when you have to do 60 mouse clicks to transfer 30 pilots to reserve[:@]

Agreed. I do this with after a month or so with all those fully restricted air groups in the US.

I'm sure someone on the team will read (or has already) your request. They are probably too busy working on the patch to respond to questions. Which hopefully means the patch will be out sooner.

I would add a mission agression to abort if the escorts dont show ?  Loosing 20 bombers is not nice.

"Send all pilost" maybe not. Because most of the time I am NOT sending all the pilots to the general reserve... I may send let's say the 70% (the 30% are still NOT ready so they must stay). Maybe a) first select the pilots, and b) your request: send all "selected" pilots to general reserve [8D]

Actually, that's pretty "gamey"..., being that those groups are being sent to fight in Europe.

Commander Waldron must have thought differently.

I hope you're not implying that you've modelled the entire bomber logic of the game after Waldron's show at Midway? [;)]
I mean, the guy had balls and instincts and all.
But - we're talking about a pretty unusual commander in a pretty unusual situation doing a pretty unusual thing with pretty improbable (and unusual...!) consequences.
Waldron should be the exception to the rule, not the other way around.

My problem is that ALL my bomber squadrons seem to be commanded by Waldron Wannabes.
They just don't have his timing and good sense (I'm pretty sure Waldron wouldn't have gone all in and put his whole squadron on the line for a measly AKL in Madras Harbor...).

Having the tactical option of at least lowering the chance of a Waldron, when you really don't want one, would really benefit this game and make it more realistic.
And on the other hand, having the ability to give your men the Waldron pre-battle speech once in a while, and see them go all in in the following battle, would be equally cool and realistic.

The game already takes leader aggression and pilot morale into account when handling air combat. If your bombers have no escort, their leader has low aggression and/or the pilot morale is low they are far more likely to withdraw from combat.

Amen, brother.

Further down, some very good gamers suggest the game engine might be slanting the game as if all group leaders were as brave as Waldron, and seem to not take into account at least one major, historical consideration.

A military mission is expected to be carried out, and in this case, an escort might be considered a true luxury, and not the main feature of the mission.
The military is not run as a democracy, and most often only the senior officer present would be in the position of making the decision to abort a mission, and it sure better be a better reason then lack of an escort, or he is gonna have some very unimpressed brass waiting for him at the base for possible "Desertion in the face of the enemy" charges in the offing.

This is a concept most civilians have problems getting their minds around, but it is the explanation for why 300 Spartans held their ground, or countless units walked into the fire at Marye's Heights, or why Waldron coaxed his men just a bit further,...ad infinitum.

Sometimes, it is a matter of bravery, but every time, it is a matter of duty.
