On The Banks of the Volga

Post by markhwalker »

This image is taken at the mid-level zoom. This is a scenario about 2/3rds of the way through the Russian campaign. The Germans, controlled by the AI, are attempting to capture numerous Soviet locations. The Soviets are outnumbered, but beginning shorty after this, reinforcements begin arriving over the Volga (south map). These reinforcements are random, and although they are Russian, and fight the Germans, the Russian player cannot control these Russians directly (they are from another command). Interesting scenario.

I like the widescreen view. Reminds me of many hours playing Red Baricades (ASL). Hope it is as much fun.

LOL, I got duplicate versions of Red Barricades running on vassal right now.

But what always bothers me with these games, is the effects of smoke is always over-exagerrated and over-used.

I realize you're trying to keep it like the tabletop, but the LOS dots in the middle of each hex should be tossed out on the computer version.

The artwork would look even better that way.  [;)]

I'm REALLY hoping that for night battles there is an effect for flares and fires that shows only the visible portion of the board illuminated, maybe with the rest grayed out

It could be just an overlay, like turning hex grids on/off.
