I have the Talonsoft versions, why should I buy the Matrix versions?

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Simply put, is it worth the money to buy the Matrix versions, are there enough new bells and whisltles to justify it?

I am bias so should be the one talking

up above is a link to a couple of reviews, depending, they say good things and bad things

look at some of the AARs to get a feel for how the games play now, vs how they used to play

(really, have you played either of them recently ? I reinstalled JA 2 Wildfire, everybody complained that Hired Guns wasn't as good as the old JA games, but, playing the old games, I think Hired Guns is much better (even more so with the mods) don't make a decison based on what you think you remember the old games to be, most times you forget the bugs and crashes, and things that pissed you off while playing (easy to do, all of the old games were great, we just forget the bad parts)

we fixed a lot of the old bugs, added new features, got a ton of new, improved data (pilots, targets, planes, loadouts)

if you remember some of the old catch phrases, Dover, freeze ray, Andrei, disappearing 12th FS's, some bugs, that most players never got a chance to see, as they only happened very late in the game, the Hanger, the High alt Explot, in the BoBs the Power attack win in 1 or 2 days

I can honestly say, that yea, it is not the same old game, but, I would rather you look around and read what is posted, and see if it is what you want or expect, then to gamble on something I say, as I said before, I am bias

but, we expect to be around, and we have a lot of work planned, if we can do it

Depends if you like the game and want to play it. If you do, then YES buy it.

Let's see, FSs in the MED no longer fly to England before going home. Fighters actually escort mediums a little bit. Me410s get shot down.

Basically it IS the same game. But now it works right. I'm exclusively an Allied player and I am satisfied now, finally, with the game play. Interface is the next issue and Harley seems to be banging on it. Slowly. Sort of thump.......... thump......... rather than bam, bam, bam.

Worth it, but unless I am screwing something up, you can no longer strafe planes on the ground, and if you try to do so, you get eaten by flak.

we got another guy saying he has 500 kills on the ground

so, something is not right, if you are not getting any ?

does the target have planes on it ?

flak traps can and will be made, most pilots thought stafing was more dangerous then dogfighting

As a Customer of both many Talonsoft games and Matrix games I dont think I am Biased. I have both the Original Talonsoft 12 Oclock High Bombing the Reich and EDBTR from Matrix.

I wont belabor the points too much because at the level of immersion I play at there are a myriad of changes, fixes and corrections done by Matrix on this Beauty.

Here are just a few of the major ones, all from the Allied perspective as that is where I choose to live in this game.

In the original game operating in the Med there was a problem with Fighter Sweeps. Especially Lethal to your Longer Legged AC. You would send P38's out on Fighter Sweeps and after they attacked their target they would go on "The World Tour" or "The Dover Dash" as it as been named by many. They would fly toward Dover until low fuel forced RTB. Unfortunately their courses would take them over Flak Concentrations. This bug alone accounted for over 15% of my total Fighter Losses in the Med. The Matrix version fixed this. For this and this alone... IMHO it is worth it. [&o]

In the original game Fighter Bombers like Typhoons and Tempests would not fight back if engaged by enemy Fighters. After years of playing campaigns I dont recall a single enemy AC shot down by a Fighter Bomber. The Matrix verions fixed this. Fighter Bombers now engage and kill enemy fighters within their capability to do so as well.

In the original game when my Strategic Bomber formations were being engaged by interceptors I would see things like "27 Me 109G6 Bounce B17's of 99th BG".........."2 B-17 Destroyed.... 3 B-17 Damaged".....
In the Matrix Version I now see things like... "27 Me 109 G6 Bounce B-17s of 99th BG"....."2 B-17 Destroyed.... 3 B-17 Damaged"...... Followed by ...."3 Me 109 G6 Destroyed.... 5 Me 109 G6 Damaged" YEAH BABY !!!! No more am I sending Paper Drones !!!

In the original game when I setup a Fighter Sweep the Fighters would attack the Target Point and then meander around in willy nilly directions looking to encounter enemy AC. In the Matrix version when I plot a Figher Sweep I can also Designate a Patrol Point that the AC will fly to after attacking the Target point and patrol until Low Fuel forces RTB. Now I can set up Bushwhacks !!!

These are just some of the Major changes that have greatly effected Game Play that I have observed. There are tons more that are not so significant to me but over all add up to a tremendous change for the better.

Now to your question as to if you should buy the Matrix Version.

IMHO it depends on what level of immersion your play style takes you to.

If your play style is a "Pretzels and Beer" style where you point and click your forces off to destory the enemy then you probably wont notice any difference. If that is the case then I would recommend you not buy it and just stick with the Original.

However, if your play style is very immersive and you really dig into the hows and whys and results of your actions. If you work hard to develop successful strategy's and Tactics in this game. If you really try to utilize each piece of equipment in the game for what it is best suited in your veiw then I would recommend that you buy the Matrix Version. You will see a tremendous difference.

As always anything I post on this board is just My Opinion.
