Stuped Mestakes

Post by Chickenboy »

Alright, we've had other 'stupid moments' threads on WiTP. Share your stories of woe on AE here. I'll start the parade:

Catalina squadron being transfered from PH-Canton-Noumea by flight. No problem. In a bit of a rush, I transfer my planes from Canton to Nanomea by selecting it from the list of available bases.

The next turn, when I check Noumea, my planes are nowhere to be found. It took a while to track them down. Of course, they were enjoying the weather on the coral atoll of Nanomea, a totally uninhabited isle in the middle of the stinkin' Gilberts.

I send the undamaged Cats to NOUMEA, but there are half a dozen that are damaged and cannot fly due to no supplies at the base. I send a supply-laden AVP to rescue them. It gets torpedoed by Betties flying from Kwajalein (?).

Moral of the story? Spelling does count!

Bringing a gun ship to a carrier battle.

Not escorting ships from west coast.

My wife would say my biggest mistake is spending more time on AE than with her.

Changing initial attacks on Aparri and Vigan to be led by the SCTF and followed by the invasion TF. Then forgetting the follow commands and sending the SCTFs off hunting ships fleeing Manila. Result no invasions.

In WITP I tried a bombardment run against Manila (BBs + CAs etc), I totally forgot about Baatan Guns... It was a massacre.

Do not, I repeat do not listen to your wife or you will find yourself with more "honey do's" than one man can handle in a lifetime and you will never be able to play AE again.

9 Dec 42 - Catalinas spot CVs north of wake...Catalinas spot slow moving TF northeast of Midway...thinking this was my opponent's tanker fleet, I send Enterprise and her entourage to put a hurtin' on 'em...next thing I know, torps are punching holes in the side of everything...the Gridley managed to get back to Pearl with nothing but engine damage from the flank speed run out of there...

...send a Surface TF to hit a couple of AKs at Makin and having half of them sunk by Betties from Eniwetok on the way back ... all for 15 points worth of rusty xAK.

or sending 3CVs against what I think is Baby KB only to find out it's , er, the *real* KB ... <glub, glub, glub>

I thought I read a post to send all your AP's to Cape Town for troops and your tankers and AK's to Aden to pick up oil and supplies. It was the other way around. Took a month to sort out that routing mess.

Ouch. :)

I never took them off rest and they got slaughtered sitting around the bar. Planes never took to the air!
