General

Generally speaking, things are awful!  I'm well on the way to breaking records for the quickest handover of Manila and Singapore; Tokyo Rose thanked me last night for being so helpful to the Empire, and I understand I'm a prime candidate for the "Wimp of the Year" award.

Philippines

Repeated air attacks. Sig Int indicates that Japanese 14th Army is preparing an attack.

Johore Bharu falls. Last troops leave the Peninsula. Causeway is blown.
Most serviceable a/c evacuated to DEI

Lugarville

Oh, Great! I've just realized that I'm sending 8000 ton ships to a 6000 ton port! I am told that this generally does not work out too well.  So two TFs carrying a base force and a defense bn to Lugarville are being diverted to Pago Pago. I have a slew of smaller ships there that, if they ever get any fuel, can be used to send these units to Lugarville.

Baker

I did the same thing here at Baker - trying to stuff ten pounds of flour into a five pound sack. Well, it is a learning experience.

I'm bringing down a fresh cruiser/destroyer division to keep an eye on our buddies on Canton. Hey! I just got an idea! Why don't I send an oiler down here? That would be a neat idea if I had an oiler to send. Nearest one is at SF. How does that go...Proper prior planning something something

Tulagi

If things weren't bad enouth, the Nips are making a move at Tulagi, and I don't have squat in the area. If Betty gets established there, I'll have to route my Australia convoys through Lima, Peru, and Santiago Chile!

Pearl Harbor

CS convoys are now in place supplying fuel and supplies to Midway, Baker,  Johnston, and Palmyra.
Due to the shortage of tankers, I am using AKs to transport fuel.

San Francisco

Loading TF39 To transport 5 p-40 squadrons to Cairns. 2 AKVs in convoy -  luv those ships!
Loading TF 102 to transport II US fighter command to PM via Cairns - 22 kt convoy!
Loading TF 97 to take 138th Infantry to  PP

Put 5 AKLs and a tanker into the automatic convoy system. It will supply outlying Alaskan bases
CS convoys are already supplying Anchorage and Dutch Harbor

Port Moresby - Cairns

Suddenly, I have tons of aircraft; The 20th PS,with 24 P-40s, arrived at Brisbane on the 11th and was immediately sent to Cairns. The same day a TF arrived carrying the 31st PG (P-39) and the 22nd BG (B-26). Another 2 squadrons of P-40s arrive at Brisbane 3 days from now.

I have to scramble a bit to provide support for all these guys. Darwin has some extra aviation support, so the B-26s and a squadron of P-40s will go there for now -  it's quite likely some or all of these will end up in the DEI. PM has support, so a squadron of P-40s go there. The whirlagigs are thanked for their gallant service and sent off to Townsville in order to strike terror in the hearts of the KB should it be foolish enough to show up there.

I'm transferring the Dutch air transports to Cairns. They're too short legged to ferry stuff out of Singapore, but can be used to help supply PM.

Speaking of supplies and such, things are beginning to look a bit brighter. Two large fuel TFs have arrived at Pago-Pago, and much of that is being forwarded here. Supply TFs are still way out there, but they're chugging along. I keep pumping them out from SF, so something has to show up here sometime.

There's a infantry regiment on the way and it will reinforce the garrison at PM. Next priority will be getting a couple of engineer units down here.

Baker Canton

Nothing like trying to unload a TF at a 0 level port! I'll bet they're unloading at least a pound a week!
CA Chicago and friends are keeping an eye on our Japanese guests at Canton. So far, no supply ships have gotten through - wonder what they're having for dinner tonight?

The bad news is that my HD died. The good news is my computer geek buddy revived some files including WITPAE saves. I have to fire up the new drive and do all sorts of restoration before I can continue this. See ya soon.

Those YP's are very helpful providing local ASW support around the West Coast bases.  Put them in a TF and set up a patrol zone a few hexes out from the base.  I did that and it helps a lot in keeping the subs' heads down.

How many troops are sitting on Canton right now?  There are 13,000 IJA troops on Canton in my game that are down to eating their belts and shoes thanks to my subs and cruiser TF's visiting them from Pago Pago regularly.  A bombardment TF from Pearl with 5 BB's made a visit as well to say hi last turn; now there's only 12,000 soldiers on Canton...

Well, here's what I've decided to do:

I'm going back and restart using the calm China scenario. I 'm going to play the same way - buildup Java and Oz Port Moresby airpower - When I get back to 14 January 1942, I'll resume this AAR and post any differences. Having to play China has always bugged me, and I'm not going to pass up the opportunity to do without them.

I'm a retired old fart with plenty of spare time,  so I should be back here within a couple of weeks
see ya.
