Nice...now where's the scenario to go with it?

In spite of the copious amount of real estate exposed in my JPG above, this scenario is a tad less monumental than the others. Because of that, it shouldn't take nearly so long to complete. I built the OOB this afternoon, and should place stuff on the map this coming week. Then, all I have to do is, well, everything else. Play testing ought to be a snap as this will probably be a one-day scenario, my desire to turn the whole exercise into a 20th Century rendition of 300, Notwithstanding.

After that, we'll move up the road and turn back the clock to Beda Fomm.

PoE,

I'd be interested to see how long routes take to calculate on your map. It's quite large.

PoE,

I'd be interested to see how long routes take to calculate on your map. It's quite large.

When finishing up the map, I noticed that one of the last steps, "calculate terrain tables," took somewhat longer than with my Brevity/Battleaxe maps. I was a little surprised because they're larger than the new Mersa Brega map, 50k x 40k, rather than 50k x 35k. Obviously, I won't know how the game plays with the new map until I've got a full-blown scenario up and running. Thus far, game-speed hasn't been an issue with my scenarios at all.

How many units in your earlier scenario?

Mersa Brega varies by reinforcement schedule.

Axis are 30-33

Allies are 15-25

Battleaxe had three times that many, Gabr Saleh perhaps four.

A scenario emerges from the belly of the beast:

Thought that I was pulling your leg, huh? [;)]

The maximum unit count is up to about forty per side, again depending on which reinforcement schedule is used.

Yes well that number should present no problems. However, I'd be interested to see how a much larger number of units fair. Eg around the 300 to 400 units all up for both sides.

A quick update on my performance issue with this map...

I discovered that I had done the math wrong when calculating the proportions for the map's height and width, so I decided to simply redo the whole thing.

Anyway, I marked it up, calculated the terrain values and created the map draw cache, and voila, the performance hit appears to have vanished!

I have no substantive or worthwhile explaination for so marked an improvement, but I suspect that I may have inserted an errant "DAG" into the map early on in its creation.

As always for posterity,
