Cool things that I have seen thread

Post by crsutton »

1. Amazing variation in air combat. Lots of ways that planes cam "auger in".

2. RO sub took a shot at my American sub

3. I class boat driven to the surface with depth charges and then polished off with gunfire.

4. Midget sub sneaks into Pearl and slam one into the Maryland.

Just a start. What cool things have you seen?

About 85,000 threads per day since release. That's very cool...[:D]

That I  see on the map the Japanese KB's chasing my little CV TF's near wake they didn't go NW it seems but due west and I am stuck between the Marshall Nell Betty and the KB... think I will go south fast full speed

Are they hunting after hangin out at wake too long?

Antarctica is on the map, or at least the pack ice adhering thereto. Gotta believe that was an Andrew "wanna have"! [;)]

My PT boats actually attacked something and even more remarkable, sunk a CL

The japs have a method of hiding BB's in rain squalls and paying the passing transport a visit (it wasn't pretty)........[:@]

The AI is very aggressive and makes for a challenge.

Tokyo Rose has happily reported the sinking of all of my BB's and all the CV's that I will build in 1943 [;)] That was a nice addition !!

The US subs still miss more than that hit [8|]

The jap subs will show up at the most inappropriate times and they won't miss [:@]

my Wildcats crashed a party of Bettys that had already started bombing my APs and shot them to pieces. Late is better than never [:D]

IJN sub patrols. Now they patrol off the US west coast, I've never seen that before. Same around Hawaii. I've set up a bunch of ASW TFs to kill them, some good cat & mouse sub chasing.

Definitely feels like the AI is more competent. With WITP I could easily hold on to Manila and Singapore, we'll see how long I can hold out in WITPAE.  And I also enjoy the Tokyo Rose announcements.[:D]

The MASSIVE attention to detail in the game. I still have not got beyond turn 2 in the game after finding a new feature

Some examples,

when dogfighting you get the name of both pilots.
the way CAP is increased as new fighters are scrambled.
Post Raid action.
Confirmed sinkings.
the plethora of new op report and combat messages.

I love the AE team [&o]

You can say that again! AE is all I hoped it would be and more! Certainly the most detailed and addictive war/strategy game I've ever played.

Oh 1 more

I love the way the air raid graphic changes on what target is being attacked and how we see battleship row with smoking burning ships in it!

Me too! See my "pimp slapping" thread. Worst thing they did to me is that I left Rabaul unguarded and the AI sent a cruisers and two DDs in to raid. Sunk a critical tanker loaded with precious fuel and 4 much need APDs. Then, just because I was fool enough to ingore it, the AI did it again about two week later.

Only problem is that the AI ships stayed in the hex and did not retreat as they should have. The lingered for a few days while my vals got some practice in. This happend on both of their raids. So the AI is good but still can do some funny stuff.

Actually, I wonder if it is not a problem as my surface TF that hit some transports at Tassfaronga did not retreat as well but stayed around during the following day. I know that they had retire set for them but they stayed anyways. Time will tell,

Well you couldnt see it, but I got my ass nicely kicked in Coral sea.
1. First I smashed Tulagi/Guadalcanal landings- Hurraaa!
2. Shoho got 3x 1000lbs on 2nd day and limped north - not decisive but nice!
3. Smashed PM invasion convoy with both carriers - Hurraaaa! Lex got two torps from rabaul - EHM!
4. What remained of PM invasion convoy was scattered by SCTF (what left from Lex group) - Hurra!
5. Lex covered by Yorktowns group slowly limping towards australian coast
6. Shokaku and Zuikaku showed up and send both my carriers and few cruisers to Davy Jones Locker  - Nimitz would not thank me very sincirelly...
IRL I would have been relieved from command and never ever put my feet on deck of anything larger than inflatable dinghy... [:D]

Well, except for the extra carrier lost you pretty much did historically well. You prevented the landing, sunk one carrier and probably shot down a lot of vals and kates. Holding PM is the key. Don't worry, Uncle Sam will build you a few new carriers. In my attempt, I got to PM one day late and Japan took it. Sunk a Japanese carrier with heavy damage to mine but losing PM was the deal closer.

Similar to my experience, I absolutely hammered the Japanese invasion force and sank the Shoho. I got cocky and went in for the kill and promptly lost BOTH of my carriers without scratching Shokaku and Zuikaku.

One tiny little thing, but I still think it's cool: even tankers get upgrades! E.g., from machine guns to anti-aircraft guns.

One thing I noticed in the Aleutians campaign: Amazing differences between offloading capabilities of APA vs. xAPs ... makes them so much more valuable.

--Subs will now attack multiple targets
--Patrol zones for subs; enough said
--Subs shooting at other subs
--Planes running out of ammo, engine troubles, etc, and leaving combat
--CD guns that shoot at ships
--Seeing a damage report say "topside carried away" from a shell hit
--Unpredictable AI
