User Interface improvements list
User Interface improvements list
Here's my requests, plus some I've read elsewhere, for improving the user interface. Hopefully these are items that could be implemented in a new release sooner rather than later.
Please feel free to add yours.
1. More detailed, specified control over which combat results are displayed and for how long.
2. Summary of sea combat results.
3. Different background color in the fleets screen for zones you actually have a fleet in.
4. Also in the fleets screen, don't add moved fleets to existing ships in the zone, show them in parentheses after the number of ships in zone.
5. Add an undo button in the fleet screen for the most recent action so one inadvertent click doesn't ruin deployments.
6. Give an option to lighten up the shading of the action boxes in the main screen.
7. Allow the Enter key to function as a left click for purposes of dismissing an information popup (like combat results).
8. Turn off the big, blue, blinking light to if AP=0.
9. For the valid moves hex display, when AP=1, display a green background instead of red (to show that the unit can still attack).
10. Also for this display, when APs remaining are displayed, eliminate the "AP left", just show the number.
11. Hotkeys for quick save/quick reload (especially now when restarts are frequent).

A hotkey to toggle on/off unit names. Those super long names aren't pleasant to look at when cluttered all over the map, especially in unit dense areas.

Agree with all of willgamers suggestions, in particular 8 and 9
Would also like to have the big blue blinking dot only for units of the currently active nation

RE: User Interface improvements list
I'd like a unit screen. You click on an unit in that list, the tac map moves there.
I'd also like to see some improvement about HQs. Attaching units to HQ, etc. But that's out of the UI scope, I guess.

Yes, a unit screen would be very nice. Like a list, from where you can access the units and do tings with them: upgrading, replenish, rename or disband. All these thing would be much easier if you could display all units in OOB-style.

A patch, eh? I haven't started modding the consts.csv yet. Maybe I should wait? [&:]
RE: User Interface improvements list
I'd like to see greater contrast in color to understand areas of control. Maybe it's just me, but i have a harder time differentiating controlled areas because the background is a dark green...Then again, perhaps a greater contrast in colors of the units (i.e. German vs. French units) would be better. just my .02 cents.

@Uxbridge, wait for a day with your modding.
@willgamer, all your proposals are nice and probably will have positive impact on the game. We would like to wait for some time for more feedback and then pick the most essential issues.

Okay. I have changed the OOB:s. Hope you don't meddle with those, or that the changes are minor.

RE: User Interface improvements list
One thing I have noticed with the vastly increased OOB's is that repairing units is harder. What I mean is that I am spending a considerably longer length of time repairing units. Looking for the amber indicator light is a bit difficult with all the other things on the map. Literally it becomes a chore on the Maginot Line, or the Dniepr line to find the units you need to repair.
Would it be possible to have a filter setting for the following hopefully controlled by a hot-key to toggle them on and off
Toggle for Supply - Show me only the units that would be showing Red Supply situation
Toggle for Replacements - Show only the units that would be showing Amber below Strength
Also as other folks say, would it be possible to have a setting to just turn off the Blue Flashing indicator for combined attack then add
Toggle for Combined - Show me only the units that are eligible to make a combined attack.
Literally what I would like is to have on any given map view the ability to toggle Supply Replacement (and combined) on and off quickly with a hotkey. So I can pull up a region and hit the Replacement and see where I need replacements.. and the same for supply. Less so for combined, but I know the blue flashing indicator seems fairly unpopular and I admit it is occasionally annoying so this idea might be a good thing if we also had a way to turn off the blue flash indicator.

That reminds me of a couple of filters I'd like to see.
Hotkeys for:
Display just terrain.
Display just air units.
Here's an idea for the BBBD (Big, Blue, Blinking, Dot)- make the default no dot; add a smaller, not blinking, orange dot to units that have expended their combined attack.

RE: User Interface improvements list
Hi there.
Here's my whishlist :
- A toggle button for units with an attached leader.
- Filters to view the "intervention zones" for air forces and "command radius" for leaders.
- Change the "Next unit" toggle from TAB (to N ?) and add a "Previous unit" button (might be P).
- Grey out units that have been moved.
- A toggle button to "remove from list" units that are garrisoned/meant to stay en place for the remaining turn.
- A toggle to hide/show the whole interface.
- Add an option to confirm the "End turn" click.
- An option to resize the fonts dynamically or hide completely remove the unit names in close up view.
That's about all I thought of at the moment but I only played less than an hour [:D]

When one of my ground units is being attacked by enemy air, perhaps outlining the target unit. I see no way of being able to tell which unit is being attacked except to memorize all the strengths of my units and see which has changed.
A report for convoy damage should come up every turn, so I don't have to click on the 'reports' button then find the report I want.
Speaking of reports, each report page should begin with the last report in that category, not the first. Annoying to have to slide over from the first report of the war to the most recent every time I want to check something.

RE: User Interface improvements list
All the issues with colour, contrast and unit names are moot, as these are currently all adjustable.
my requests are primarily A.I. based.

- unfreeze western front german units to respond to french attacks is the 1st one.
- subs seem to get smashed by allied fleets, without doing much damage in return.

No offense, but what issues are you speaking of? For example, most of the color issues in the above posts involve logic changes. Contrast may be mod-able, but that does not equal in game adjustable. As for the naming requests, the alternative is to manually alter hundreds of names... not a viable alternative for most people.

Since you can send unfrozen units back to oppose the French, I'd like to hear more about why the change is needed. The way it is now does reflect some of the political reality of the time.

Not my experience... YMMV...

RE: User Interface improvements list
I think the need for unit names under the counter is superfluous, given the unit information is all given on the right side of the screen. quite easy to turn them all off. Comes down to personal preference I suppose. My comment was more about those fussing about the blinking-blue-dot. I thought it was a mountain from mole-hill kinda subject. No offence taken, just my humblest of opinions. All comments here good ones. I look forward to the patch(es) and continued developer support.

RE: User Interface improvements list
The German freezing vs France makes no sense, the Wehrmacht just didn't attack before May40 by choice. OTOH French Maginot Line units SHOULD be frozen, it was a high-level strategical and political decision... Here we have history reversed, with cautious Germans vs bold French !! [X(]
Edit : oops, my bad, French units are frozen (and/or may be unfrozen)through event ![:)]
Still, German freezing should be removed imho .

RE: User Interface improvements list
Ok, three more from me:
1. Please add to the reports a list of units currently owned by the player, divided into types.
2. Now it is hard to tell which unit has been used in an air strike, it would be nice it was marked somehow on the map and it's name clearly stated.
3. Unless I'm blind it's hard to say which hexes carry VPs without clicking on a given hex.
