1.08.00 Uploaded to the Members Area!

Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge is a turn-based strategy that puts you command of a squad of specialists for hire in the genre’s biggest game-world yet: the African country Diamond Coast. Diamond Coast is a playground for the cruel and corrupt, each with their own agenda. Choose your friends wisely and buy an army of ruthless mercenaries to unleash mayhem on your foes. Choose “jobs” from different factions and complete them for cash to upgrade your weapons and hire more elite soldiers of fortune.

1.08.00 Uploaded to the Members Area!

Post by Greg Wilcox »

We've uploaded the Public Beta version of the 1.08.00 Update and it is available in our Members Club. While we do final testing we figured we'd offer you a change to get it early as well. This is still a beta, but it's stable and solid as far as we can tell. See the change list list below for details.

You can download this as a Registered Download as long as you have registered your Hired Guns serial number in our Members Club (click on the MEMBERS link in the top nav bar).

Change List
Features and Enhancements
• Tweaked game performance during enemy turn so it does not take too long and does not require as much system resources.
Fixes
• Fixed bug where game would be stuck in enemy turn for ever and never progress.
• Fixed bug where player would start a turn with the same amount of AP that they ended the previous turn with.
• Fixed bug where enemies get stuck on the edge of the map which prohibits the player from exiting the tactical screen.
• Fixed performance issue where the game would run very slow after clearing an area of enemies and returning to real time mode on a tactical map.
• Fixed bug where if a player character had a full inventory except for their hands a crash would result in moving an item into their empty hands.

Installed and played for few hours now.
Few observations..

+ Quicker loading times
+ Quicker camera
+ Lesser mouse lag
+ Overall better responses to controlls

But.

- NO IMPROVEMENT TO AI OR CRITICAL GAMEPLAY
-Some weird audio problems with dissappearing explosions, missing gunsound in bursts, extra echo..
-New bug? In the first two maps,my round has suddenly ended when putting character laying prone and after that clicking another prone character (?).havent managed to repeat that consistently. but this is a completely new bug..

But in general, all the same LOS issues, blocked paths, super fatigue, irrational weapon damage (and Reinforces path obviously dont work...),dumb AI etc still prevail.
The patch have propably remedied those crash issues people have had but all the other gameplay issues remain...
Great.

The goal of the patch was to address the crash issues, not to adjust the AI or anything else. I wish we could have fit more into this one, but getting this much from the developers was a job in and of itself. We're going to go back to them for another update after this one, but we wanted to make sure the remaining rare crash issues were resolved before trying to tweak anything further.

Thanks for improving on these issues! Richard Therrien is happy somewhere in retired gaming heaven! [;)]

Here is the issue I had with the game that made it almost unplayable for me:
Greg Wilcox

• Fixed performance issue where the game would run very slow after clearing an area of enemies and returning to real time mode on a tactical map.

After I applied the patch, it seems to have fixed the problem a lot! It plays much better now. I no longer get that really bad sluggish, slowness feeling. Glad I took the time to send in that saved game [;)].

Erik Rutins

We're going to go back to them for another update after this one

Great! Take your time. Not that you have a choice working with them, but that's still awesome.

Patch made it super duper playable for me, so I'm dancing! Dancing in the streets! [:)]

Question:

Should the 1.08 beta be loaded over the 1.07 patch or only be used with a clean install?

pad152,

The v1.08 Beta is comprehensive, so it will update any previous version of Hired Guns.

Mack,

Did you register your copy of Hired Guns in the Members Club? Beta versions are only available to registered customers.

Regards,

- Erik

The beta feedback was helpful and given some reports we are holding off our original release time frame. We're trying to release the update as soon as we iron out a few potential issues.

Thanks to everyone for being patient.

They should work, as far as I know. Always backup your save files before upgrading though, if you want to be safe.

you don't know for sure huh? can i back out of just patch 08 if my saves don't work or is it a complete reinstall? someone on the forum must know if they're compatible. i just got the game and don't want to apply 1.08 (even though i am experiencing one of the problems it fixes) if i have to uninstall/reinstall.
