New Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer....

Post by Unzen »

Interesting one..... :)

Seems a little short on point-defense, even with the 30mm turrets. Or is the article not giving away too much information?

The Type 45 relies on the PAAMS/Aster for both area and self-defense.

This article does mention the armament of the HMS Daring

There is provision for the installation of two close-in weapons systems such as the Raytheon Phalanx. [source: Naval-technology.com]

Yes, there's a habit of "fitted for, but not with". In the current budget climate, I'd say its unlikely the Type 45 will ever see any CIWS fitted. Ditto for the Harpoons.

Another interesting thing is that the British Navy wanted the Dutch Zeven Provinciën class LCF as replacement for their Type-42 destroyer in the first place.[;)]
