Allied CV Airgroups

Post by alanschu »

Hi there,

I just noticed that Saratoga's Wildcat fighter group has gone from 27 to 36. Other carriers are still at 27 though. It's July 7th so I was curious if they expanded, but I don't know how to do it or if there was an event or something.

Thanks!

It happens automatically.

It doesn't automatically happen automatically. [;)]  You need to have "accept replacements" on within the individual airgroups.  Just recently I was getting frustrated, and wondering why my old 27-sized fighter groups would not grow to 36, and I'm in March 1944.  Turning the replacements on in the individual air groups changed the situation the very next turn. Also, I had a theater HQ present in a major level 9 port.  I was advised this would do the trick, and it may have been part of the formula, but "accept replacements" was a definite.

Hmmmm, I am pretty sure Saratoga wasn't an allow replacements....  Though I'll give that a try.

July 1942 is when this should happen?

Then two things: (1) mighty big coincidence on my part, because as soon as I did it, every carrier began upgrading.
(2) I'm playing CHS and that is the culprit.

Nope, it seems you are correct.  Turns out I forgot to turn off allow replacements on the Saratoga.

I did it to my other carriers and they all got bumped to 36 fighters.  Nice work! :)

In 7/42, the allied carrier units are upgraded to 60 fighters each (with addition of
one marine squadron)

If a marine squadron of 24 aircraft is added to the carrier,
then a loadout may be

24 x F4F
36 x F4F
18 x SBD
15 x TBF

Greetings,

That is precisely what is done. The Marine units are an effective supplement to the
carriers. [8D]

After the skies are clean, all types of ordnance can be dropped with impunity. [8D]
The allied fleet may be considered an insect attraction and lethality agent --> the grid can be confronted by planes, however these will not be allowed to leave. With 300 plus fighters on patrol, the enemy carriers shall be empty and they may be pulverized at will.

Usually once losses have been inflicted upon a single SBD squadron, the other one is rotated from a nearby base and the battalion is once again full. (for example if VB-6 has lost 7 planes, VB-6 is rotated back to closest airbase and VS-6 is placed onto the carrier while VB-6 is refilled with pilots and aircraft). This way a consistent projection of force is maintained.

For amusement, the SOC Seagulls can be used for naval attacks [:D] (after the skies are cleaned by the legions F4F wildcats)
