Basically, everything that is now known as Indonesia. I think there is a very fine balance between defending that area as allies, and trying to get enough out of there to begin setting up a proper defense on the areas the allies have to maintain.

What does IJN and USA stand for?
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

But wait I am confused:

Does AE stand for ammunition ship or Admiral's Edition?

Does AS stand for submarine tender or assualt strength?

Does AV stand for aviation support or assault value?

Does HI stand for heavy industry, Home Islands, or Hawaian Islands?

Does PP stand for politcal points or Pago Pago?

Does PM stand for Port Moresby or personal message?

Is it NEI, DEI, or SRA?

Just wondering (oh, and BTW, we are not mocking the original question, just having a little fun)

There are no dumb questions, unless of course you count the unasked ones as dumb.[:)]

Heh, unless I'm mistaken, people are informal about the abbreviations they choose for base names in WITP. PM (Port Moresby) and PH (Pearl Harbor) are pretty universal abbreviations, though I personally prefer to spell them out. You might occasionally see HK for Hong Kong, but I think it's much cooler-looking to spell it out. You'll sometimes see HI for Home Islands (of Japan) but, confusingly, HI can also stand for Heavy Industry and maybe even Hawaiian Islands. You'll also frequently see abbreviations for familiar ships: POW (Prince of Wales), for example. Above all you'll see lots of abbreviations for ship classes: everything from AV to CV to DMS to AO. Most of those are explained in the manual, but we're getting a bunch of new ones with AE.

Well, if you were Japanese and were planning for the invasion of Midway it was referred to as target AF.[:)]
