CPU at 100%?

Post by barniewhittle »

Hi - just bought COI but a little disappointed that it seems to hog the CPU on my laptop, it seems to run at 100% all the time even when not much is happening. My laptop fan then screams at max all the time, which takes the edge off playing the game. Is there any way of stopping this? Other Matix games I have don't have the same effect.

Thanks in advance

Hi

CoI doesn't do this so how can we track down your problem?

What OS are you using?

What are your system specs? (CPU, RAM. etc)

Hi - thanks for the prompt reply. My laptop is:

Sony VGN-A115B(GB), Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1500MHz, 512 MB RAM, Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 ... not the youngest of machines, but seems to be well within spec.

Any help gratefully received

Hi

yep, your specs easily cover it... I'm running it on a 600mhz celeron with 256mb memory and  win98.

CoI will chew up a bit of CPU when loading battles etc but then settle down.

i even run a Virtual machine so I can multitask while playing CC.

Even your ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 video card should present no problems.

Are you up to date with drivers?

Hi - thanks for the help. I've just updated the BIOS and drivers to no avail.

The only possible issue with the laptop is an error message on start of the laptop (not the game) to the effect that, "could not load C:\Windows\System32\erhrvpqz\csrss.exe specified in the registry". I think this is some old vestage of sorting a virus problem over a year ago. It hasn't caused any obvious problem with the working of the laptop, so I just ignore it (not knowing how to sort it out). Other games do not do this 100% CPU issue so I assume the error message is nothing to do with this problem.

Any more thoughts?

Thanks

When you pull up the process manager with Ctrl-Alt-Del, does it say that the COI process is using all the CPU or is another process using a fair amount?

Hi b wittle,

Erik has a good idea. In Win XP, if you right-click on the task bar at the bottom of your Windows XP desktop, select "Task Manager". From within the task manager, click on the processes tab. Inside of here, click on the CPU tab to sort the processes by CPU usage. This should give you the answer as to which program is using up all of your CPU cycles.

On my Asus laptop, COI is using next to nothing for CPU cycles while running a battle.

Hi all - good idea to order the task manager by CPU - didn't know you could do that.  Answer is that at least 92% of the CPU is down to CC... and I suspect the missing 8% is what's lost in the time it takes to Alt Tab.  The mystery deepens??

Great game BTW..
