Aircraft upgrade at sea.

Post by JeffroK »

I hope this is something the AE developers look out for..

OK, I should have set my carrier aircraft at "Do not Upgrade"

July 43 Invasion of Torokina, I sent off my Amphib force with 4 x CVE and CA/DD support. Following them was a CVTF with 2 x CV and 2 x CVL. All fighters on LRCAP.

The CV & CVL still had F4F-4 but I was expecting the F6F so had the CV sqns set to upgrade.

Both fleets merrily sail off to Bouganville and 3 MarDiv lands succesfully. The CVTF is 1 hex off Torokina.

The japanese try to intervene and send in about 50 escorted Betties, my CAP of about 100 F4F-4's fight them off and there is minimal damage, thinks are going great.

(This could have been 1 turn later) I'm lazily watching those messages at the end of the turn and up pops " VF## on USS Hornet upgrades to F6F" !!!! Isnt that sitting off Torokina !!!

Next turn I look at the CVTF and find both CV fighter sqns have upgraded, despite being at sea?????

Luckily the CVL & CVE put up enough CAP while my CVTF headed for Dodge, well Lunga anyway.

In ??thousands?? of turns I've only seen it once, so I'm not calling for the bug police, but its worth looking at ensuring it doent happen.

Yep, hoping that it could be something the testers could look out for or try to emulate.

My fear is that if your attitude is represenative of the AE team (which I'm sure it isnt) we will get AE Vanilla just as we started with WITP vanilla.

I hope someone out there is pushing the program rather than just playing with it.

A WITP-AE "vanilla" is a fair goal.

Without reasonably reaching that, what is the point of any other flavor? If you expect too much than you increase your chance of not being satisfied with the product.

I dont want (and really dont expect) a product which was as buggy as WITP stock.  A couple of years on the basic engine would have surfaced many of the bugs.

But you need to push the boundaries, not just play a soft game and be happy that, as long as you play historically, it works.

Keep up the testing, If it means a better product i can wait.

You're desire (and mine, and that of many others I'm sure) is fair. Whatever happened behind the scenes with WITP stock I don't know, but it seems pretty plain that the testing effort working AE is pretty massive.
