u running Vista?
What version OS?
Has it ever been running ok?
Do you remember if you did anything that may have caused it? An update to Windows etc?

ntdll.dll
I'm getting an error with this file in Internet Explorer

Users who are encountering an error with this file while in Microsoft Internet Explorer can often resolve the issue by removing any third-party add-ons. Additional information about removing Internet Explorer add-ons as well as other basic troubleshooting steps that can be done if this does not resolve your issue can be found on document CHIE.

Source (though somewhat dated - a Google for that dll will turn up other hits. The suggestion above is probably valid however, remove any BHO's (browser helper objects) that you might of installed for IE and then try again).

Judge all that info is above. Its always worked before, problem started on Saturday and the last batch of updates were Ultimate extras. more specifically a new Windows game called Tinker, Windows Dream Scene Content Pack#4, Group Policy Preference Client Side Extensions for Windows, and the last Definitions for Windows Defender.

Ok.

Cantona, I don't know if this is possible, but to be honest this is what I would try...
[ol][*]go back to a previous restore point (prior to Saturday)[*]be selective about the vista downloads (you should be able to download one item at a time...and say no to the rest (but don't select the never remind me of these updates options or you won't get them offered again and have to go looking)[*]When doing this, see which update it is (if any) which is breaking IE7...when you find it, go back to a restore point and select all the downloadable options except the one which is broken and select the option to never be reminded about that update.[/ol] Those are the steps I would go through. Be warned that going back to a restore point will remove all changes (to all harddrives if selected) made to the system after the restore point. By default I think System Restore only targets your boot drive...but be warned (again) that includes your My Documenst folder and possibly other important things...only do a restore if you are sure you can do without whatever has happened between now and your restore point.

Alot of people mentioning similar problems with Windows Vista Ultimate and IE7...I've never had an issue, but then I seldom use my laptop...could be it's waiting to download some new stuff and break mine soon.

I have used restore many times in the past and it always seemed very reliable.

You might try uninstalling Adobe products like Flash, Shockwave and Reader.

If that resolves the problem, you can reinstall the proggys and go from there.

There's also a program called "HiJack This" that you can try.

Run it and uninstall anything labeled BHO (browser helper object).

Be careful with HT, though, if you uninstall/remove the wrong item, it can cause you a lot of headaches.

Update:

I have Vista installed on a partition of this computer, but I don't use it much. I googled up this regarding problems with IE7 and tabbed-browsing: http://msmvps.com/blogs/spywaresucks/ar ... 03178.aspx

Honestly, the best advice I can give you is called FireFox.

I've got both IE7 and FireFox installed so they can easily live together on the same system, but I hardly ever start IE7 anymore due to FireFox simply being faster and better

Just try it, instead of trying to fix IE7, you just might decide to dump it altogether.

TO whoever; Dosen't IE7 have a 'REPAIR' feature built in, where when you ask to remove IE7 it gives you that option ? I know IE6 did.  Also doesn't 'Vista' have a software repair feature in it's programing ? XP do.

Problem

Post by hermanhum »

I had the same time-out problem.  It is better with Firefox, but I still get it occasionally.

IE7 was causing me problems with my Outlook Express connection.  Once I uninstalled it, everything came back to normal.

I, like others, have Firefox and enjoy using it. I also have IE7 installed and they do not interfere with each other

I'm not on my Firefox machine at the moment, but I'm sure there's a setting to change which automatically adds a "mini" tab...then you just click on it afaik...I'll check when I'm on my PC (I'm on my vista laptop at the moment)
