I'm on the map!

Post by Cuttlefish »

I was taking another look at the AE screenshots and noticed to my delight that my home town is now on the map! I was puzzled by that for just a second but then I remembered nearby Adair Village, which in World War II was Camp Adair. During the war it was an infantry training center and POW camp and was also the second largest population center in Oregon (behind Portland). The current population is under 1000.

It just goes to show the amount of new detail we have to look forward to. I feel kind of like I did when I was a kid in a small town in the 60s looking through the toys in the Sears catalog. The catalog held all kinds of wonders I had never seen before. I would spend hours looking through it and counting the days until Christmas. This is like that, except that we don't know when Christmas is.

You are exactly correct about why we added Corvallis. There are "Camp" units -- fixed base forces -- at Corvallis, OR, Ft. Lewis (Tacoma), WA and San Luis Obispo and Ft. Ord CA. These were the main training centers on the West Coast.

During the course of the game four different US Divisions will appear in Corvallis. These are the four infantry divisions that formed and trained in Camp Adair and nearby Camp White before deploying overseas. Since three of them went to Europe you'll only get to use one of them unless the Japanese are foolish enough to invade the West Coast.

Very cool. Thanks for the information, Blackhorse. And don't worry, Andrew, I'm going to pretend it's there just for me anyway. [:)]

I'm on the map as well. My grand daddy helped build Fairchild AFB outside Spokane. I still remember all the B-52's flying over head as a Kid.

Didn't grow up in Corvallis but I'm an Oregon State University alumni.  Nice to see the ol' college town on the map.

The OC

Post by Cap Mandrake »

Now hold on...is the OC on the map? at 40 miles/hex there has to be one or two hexes between LA and San Diego. How about El Toro MCAS?

It was the largest Marine Corps Air Station on the west coast.

Orange County is represented. Look for the "Santa Ana" hex.

I guess its too late to petition Andrew for Oak Ridge. Its only three ridges and a river away from the house.
