Aircraft lost with a ship

Post by Panther Bait »

How do aircraft lost when a ship sinks show up on the plane losses list? Destroyed on ground? Or as op losses?

I ask because I had a turn where 58 of my opponents A-24s showed up as op losses in one turn, but they weren't involved in any combat that turn. I did sink an AK or 2 in the South Pacific, so I was wondering if the A-24s might have been on board.

Thanks

They show up as Op Losses. I lost an AK carrying the entire 49th FG, and all 72 P-40's were lost and showed up as Op Losses. Also, the destroyed unit respawns in 90 days.

Strange, in my game they tend to appear as "losses on the ground". I wonder if this is handled differently between transports and carriers...

Carrier planes that go down with a carrier seem to turn up as Ground Losses, and planes that ditch (Carrier sunk) or are sunk on an AK turn up as Op Losses.

That's how they've always turned up for me.

I sank the Hiryu a couple of days ago, and the aircrafts showed in the "destroyed on ground" losses.

Sorry, KTN.  Didn't mean to spoil the surprise. [;)]

Hopefully this will put a crimp in any plans for the South Pacific.  I'd much rather sink dive bombers (and their pilots) on an AK than have to shoot them out of the air over my CVs.

Thanks for the responses, guys.  I learn a little more each turn.

Sure. They were on an "airfield" when they were lost.

On an AK, those ships aren't considered on an airfield, so apparently the program thinks they're op losses.

And there goes the FoW : "oh, there were 220 planes destroyed on field yesterday.  Strange, I didn't bomb a single airfield but I put some torpedoes in those three big CVs three days ago..."
