DVG News!

Post by Dan Verssen »

05-07-2008

This past week at Dan Verssen Games (DVG) has been devoted to getting the Down In Flames art up to speed. Luckily, Martin Scott has agreed to lend an expert hand and has greatly improved the look of the fighter control panels. He has also agreed to work on the bomber and action card panels. I am very pleased with the new look he has given the cards.

You can see the new aircraft cards in the Down In Flames slideshow.

We’ve added the first turn of a Down In Flames sample dogfight between a US Marine F4U Corsair and an Imperial Japanese A6M5 Zero. If you haven’t played DIF before, be sure and check it out. If you’ve played the old game, you’ll want to see the newly improved game mechanics and how they work.

We have also updated the pre-order numbers. All three games are making progress toward their pre-order target numbers. I’m hoping to have all three games sent to the printer in the next few months. As we did with Rommel, anyone who pre-orders a game will have the option of having his or her name printed on the box.

Modern Naval Battles and Alexander continue to have their art worked on, and we’ll have updates for them next week.

Thank you,

It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

He has permission to post here about his games since they are board not computer they do not directly compete. Or so I understand it. The only thing lame is harrassing him cause he does post.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

The past week has been focused on getting Modern Naval Battles ready for the printer. At this point, we are on schedule to send the files next week. If you’d like to pre-order and have your name printed on the box, please place your pre-order in the next couple days.

We’ve uploaded the latest MNB box back and rules file. The rules are pretty much finalized, except for the index. If you see any problems, please email us.

Once MNB is wrapped-up, we’ll focus on Down In Flames and Field Commander Alexander. The plan is to have DIF on its way to the printer in early July, and Alexander finalized in early August.
We’re in for a busy summer!

Many thanks to everyone who has placed an order or pre-order. Without your help, none of these games would be possible.

The new print run of Rommels just arrived! All the games ordered since we ran out have been mailed!

We've also updated the pre-order count-down numbers.

MNB is in the finishing stages. The cards are finalized. and for this, a major Thank You goes out to Dave Schueler for all his help! The box is finished, except for the adding of new pre-order names, and the rules are pretty much done also.

We'll be sending the MNB files to the printer next week, and expect to receive the games at the end of July.

We just uploaded the latest MNB rules and box back with the latest pre-order names.

In kind of related news, the sales of Rommel's second print run are doing very well. We are considering trying to batch its third print run with the MNB printing.

Once MNB is off to the printer, we'll turn our attention to Down In Flames - Aces High with the goal of sending it to the printer in early July.

A quick update. All the MNB files are ready to go to the printer, but last second communication delays have set us back a few days. With any luck, the files will be uploaded in a day or two and then our attention will turn to DIF and Alexander. The option to pre-order MNB and have your name printed on the box will remain available until the files are actually sent.

DVG News - 06-28-2008

Modern Naval Battles is at the printers! We hope to have the shipment of MNB games the first week of August. If you received a 'credit card declined' notice, please re-pre-order in the next day or two and email us to receive the pre-order price.

We’ve also made a few really nice additions to the web site. Many thanks to the people who contributed…

Arnauld Della Siega was very kind to translate the Rommel rules into French.

Rick Yarto deserves a round of applause for creating and sending in the Rommel Battle Summary sheet to record your battle details.

For Alexander - An updated map.

For Down In Flames - Some damaged-side aircraft cards.

For Modern Naval Battles – The final rulebook

A short update this week. The printer is examining the Modern Naval Battles files to make sure they properly set-up for printing.

Work continues on Down In Flames and Alexander. We will have updated previews of both games next week.

I've updated the Down In Flames and Alexander pre-order numbers. If you've been thinking of pre-ordering these games, this would be a great time. Both games need more pre-orders before going into production.

Greeting from DVG! We’ve been having a very busy summer designing, producing and updating new games. Here’s what we’ve been up to…

We are proud to announce our newest game up for pre-order - Modern Land Battles: Target Acquired. It has all the excitement of Modern Naval Battles, with the additional element of being in tanks, charging straight toward your enemy in a hard-hitting game of modern land warfare.

http://www.dvg.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/24/Mode ... %20Battles

We just received the printer proof for Modern Naval Battles and the game looks great! We should be able to start mailing games in about 5 to 6 weeks.

http://www.dvg.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/1/Moder ... %20Warfare

Also, you can check out the Down In Flames box back on the site. We are now accepting pre-order names for the sides of the box. Send an email stating that you give permission for DVG to use your name on the box to: dan (at) dvg (dot) com

http://www.dvg.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/22/Down ... ces%20High

The Field Commander: Alexander the Great rules are now online! The game is filled with battles, spies, prophecies, and plenty of glory! You’ll notice the similarities of its core rules with Rommel, and the differences made to highlight Alexander's specialties, style of warfare, and time-period.

http://www.dvg.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/21/Fiel ... he%20Great

We have a modification on the Pre-Order page. You can now give permission for us to put your name on a pre-ordered game at the time you place the pre-order. Just type your permission in the comment section: “It is okay to print my name 'insert your name here' on the box for this pre-order.” Yay! One stop shopping.

We are very grateful and excited to announce an updated set of rules in French for Field Commander Rommel. Arnauld Della Siega has taken the time to update his previously translated rules. We really appreciate your hard work and effort Arnauld to bring Field Commander Rommel to an ever-growing audience!

A special Happy Birthday goes out to Rick in South Carolina. If your name is Rick, and you happen live in South Carolina, your dad just MIGHT have gotten you a game which is now on its way.

We’ll keep the updates coming. Thank you all for your enthusiasm and support!

We’ve updated a few of the games this week as work on Down In Flames and Alexander continues…

We’ve updated the Modern Land Battles slideshow with new Unit and Action card images. The general look of the card frames is based on the great artwork Martin Scott put together for the Down In Flames cards.

http://www.dvg.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/24/Mode ... %20Battles

For Down In Flames, we’ve uploaded a revised set of rules that includes a first pass at the campaign rules. The goal with the campaigns is to increase decision-making while decreasing randomness and complexity.

http://images.dvg.com/www.dvg.com/difwwiirules.doc

For Alexander, there is an updated map that is pretty close to done. We’ll be posting other maps soon. Many thanks to Tim Couper for sending in some edits on the Alexander rules, a revised rulebook has been uploaded. The rules still lack graphics, but they will be going in shortly.

Also, much appreciation goes out to Arnauld Della Siega for translating the Modern Naval Battles rules into French!

These are all really great games!

Hope to see more PC conversions as well.

I'd like to see one of these as a downloable game for the XBOX 360 also given the rising success of such strategy-lite titles on that platform (Such as Carcassonne which I think was a $10-$15 download before Microsoft chose it to celebrate their 5th Anniversary of Xbox Live!

Either way DVG Games are great! Modern Land Battles is intriguing given what a great game Modern Naval Battles is to play...

I've been following the development of XNA for the last year or two, and it looks promising for getting indy games on Xbox Live.

Dan,

Is your game"Down with the Empire-Vassell".  Is that a computer game and if so, can you play solo against the ai?   Thinking about buying.[:)]

Titanwarrior,

The Vassal software turns your computer into a "virtual tabletop". Meaning, you move counters, draw cards, etc, on screen, just like a tabletop game, but you need to know the rules.
