In a recent thread there was a discussion how tenders help to re-supply PTs, subs, and destroyers with torpedoes.
It was also said that MLEs will help to supply subs with mines in lesser ports.
Background: Stock, Scenario 15, Dec 12, 1941. I want to re-supply allied minelayers in the DEI area with mines without going to size 9 ports (the only one currently in reach is Sydney, too far away).

I could not find that ship type (MLE) in the allied inventory. Is that a ship type only the Japanese have?

The Allies have MLE's as well, but there are none in the DEI.

You can "make" them, by changing over a large AK in San Francisco. Works the same for all the aux

But the difference with MLE's is that they don't appear in any other way; AD, AE, AV, AS and AGP all appear as dedicated classes, while MLE's can only be converted. May have something to do with the fact that no such thing as a "minelayer tender" existed ever, anywhere, anytime, AT ALL.[:D]

I found that ship type in the Ship Database, but neither under "List all active ships", nor under "Ship availability".
Checked by sorting Ship Type. But MLE was not listed at all.

Do you know how many MLEs the Allies should have Dec 41, and do you know the dates when more are scheduled to arrive?

EDIT: Funny, reloading my last campaign (Aug 13, 1945) I could not find that ship type either. Something wrong with the denominator "MLE" in the listings? Could it be the ship type MLE is called something else in the listings?

Stock.
The question has been answered by Norm3. It looks like I have to "make" them. There seem to be none in the Stock Scenario 15.
Thanks to you, Terminus and Norm3 for caring.

It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

Beat me to it. 180 days. If you are Japs you can hurry them along quicker. This gives them that great advantage in the unsung war in reguards to mines.

Ouch! That means the Dutch MLs can lay mines only once. After that they have to go to Trincomalee or Sydney to reload.

After reading all those helpfull replies I wonder if in the AE design the limits for mine supplying ports should be lowered (8?). You're in that AE design team as I recall. Can't you bring that up there, please?

It's being taken care of. The whole tender situation is one of the things that's getting a shake-up.

The Allies have MLE's as well, but there are none in the DEI.

The mine depot for Indonesia was at Singapore.

The Royal Durch Navy stored their mines in Singapore?
Hard to believe with their fine harbours at Java.
Then again, after the Germans occupied The Netherlands the Dutch Gouvernment exiled to London. Maybe that's why. Still, I have my doubts.

I actually sortta like the very high port requirement seeing as mine's are used like 10 times more often and more effectively to hurt invasion forces than they ever were in real life.[:D]

They made use of the RN depot in Singapore.

Yup, it's true. I saw a modding proposal once (it may have been for an early CHS iteration) of making an immobile MLE to reflect this mine depot. Problem is that even a 0-knot ship can move.[:D]
